PYPB XXXIII - Effects are STOOPID

If each pedal adds a tiny bit of noise, which they have to, don't all of them added up equal a lot of noise? If you plug your bass direct into the amp then listen, then plug through the board and listen again. You're telling me there is no difference?

Yeah, my pedals are NOISY AS F**K!!!

What's your point? :eyebrow:

Pedal noise - I get a small amount of hiss when my v1 Submarine is on, but nothing that's noticeable when I'm playing. Weird thing about my Rusty Box is that I can tell if it's on or not by the sound coming out of the cab...it's not a hiss or anything, but the pitch/tone/whatever it is that comes out when I'm not actually playing is different from when it's off. Or something.

The only thing that stops me from buying effects is the fact that no one pays any attention to bass. I have a hard time investing in sounds that no one will appreciate...even so, me want.

That's a very negative outlook. People are hearing the bass even when they don't know it. The upper registers make folks pump their fist but the lower registers move everything below the hips. My biggest challenge moving into the realm of effects was retaining the retaining the depth and headroom essential to hold a stong foundation. I am a man of this earth, and I move the floor. Guitarist can have the airwaves, the floor is mine (except when the drummer cramps my space getting excited with his feet).

Effects draw attention to the bass... Unless used unwisely. Modulation can blur perception of ryhthm and dissapear in the mix. Distortion and fuzz adds lots of upper register harmonics to the mix that make cause it to blend in with guitars. Guitars will always dominate that space, don't try to compete, they will win at what they are best at. (Experience learned from playing with two guitars who fill-up mostly all MIDRANGE and TREB space, the center of human hearing). Find space, it's there.

GOOD SIR, I KINDLY REQUEST TO SEE YOUR DIGITS REPLICATE THE AURAL LANDSCAPES CREATED WHEN MY LUTE IS LEFT UNATTENDED NEAR THE SACRED AMPLIFICATION DEVICE WITH FOUR OR FIVE OF YON "TECHNIQUE-HIDING OBJECTS" ENGAGED SIMULTANEOUSLY.

'TIS A REMARKABLE THING TO BEHOLD.

heh. LUTE.

sorry homie, i'm so going to steal that to answer somebody next time i get a "but i thought GUITAR has 6 strings? doesn't bass have 4?".

i need to find some Ren Faire **** to wear. SHARPISH.

FWIW I updated my board (moved two things around) and added the always awesome but rarely used these days...NIGHT SHOT! I'm on pg 1 if need be.... BRING ON MORE BOARDS!

My board is still as small as in the last thread but in a month or so I should hopefully be adding a Digitech BSW and Boss OC-3:
