Quilter Bass Block

To those with the InterBass, please tell me what you were hoping to accomplish with it.

33 watts isn't enough to push my fEarful 12/6, but I might find use for it as a DI. Just seems a waste of features if I only use it as a DI. And if it sounds like the BassBlock, then I won't even use the EQ at all.
In the end, I'd like an actual straight DI that sounds like the BassBlock.

To that end, how does the Tech21 QStrip sound? I like the switchable H&LPF, and the actual DI out.
Trevor the QStrip is my only tone shaping for the BB800. I leave the two dials on the Block set at noon (dead flat) and use the QStrip to dial in those sweet punchy mids I love. I also leave the HPF on all the time, really make a difference overall. Go get it!

Given the high likelihood that the 1/4" speaker out WILL be plugged into an instrument-level input at some point, it seems like this would have been a REALLY good use case for a Speakon.

A Speakon might have necessitated a slightly larger enclosure, but a larger enclosure would also allow for an internal power supply (with IEC cable input) and XLR out.
It's very well labelled SPEAKER ONLY. No need to cater everything to drongos that don't read.

Careful now, some of us still need an adapter for that. ;):woot:

Porting this over from the Interbass Thread:
Quilter Labs InterBass!

I've been following this thread for a while and after thinking on it, found some good use cases and picked it up. I already have a BB800 that I play through a 4 ohm 212 but living in a city apartment, even on the lowest settings it's way too loud to play at home. The only other amp I had at home was a Yamaha THR10X (I got it originally for guitar) that I was using on the bass channel to practice and make changes to my pedals, but things would always sound different when I played out the BB either at practice or at a show. Now with the Interbass, I can get similar tones with fewer surprises at apartment-friendly volumes.

I'm also using it as a tube-y preamp for the BB (plugged into the front of the amp). It sounds really good when you push the Interbass on the vintage setting with a loud drive pedal (I'm using an Electrofoods Germ Warfare) - gnarly but super touch-sensitive. Also I feel like I have a bit more control over the overall volume of the setup as I feel the step size for the detents is a little coarse.
I so appreciate you mentioning this. Look at what I'm doing.;):)

And here's my O face! :woot::roflmao::laugh:

OH! dayum! I like the way you're thinkin'!! I'd love to hear that!!
It "is" about as delish as it gets. I play in an 80's covers band and this setup can cover any dirt requirement I needed last Sat night. Peace Sells to Ace of Spades to Song 2 to The Middle.
So much so I'm heading down the biamp route with two of these bad boys. My avatar has a picture of what my original intent was when I purchased these 2 cabs - F112 & F212.
I picked up a Metro 20 yesterday and a Radial ABY off CL. 3m tape is on the way. I'll post a pic when it's all setup.
Just to say, one will be on the Vintage setting feeding my F212, with the YYZ in front of it, and the other will be on FR to feed the F112. Pedal board will sit on top.:)

Hi,

Does the line out act like a DI?

I have been doing some recordings at home, and I am now doing this:

BASS -> jack cable -> BB800 PASSIVE IN (front) -> LINE OUT (XLR-jack cable) -> ROLAND Go Mixer Pro (bass in, jack) -> iPad recording direct to video or to garage band.

Or, instead of the Roland, iRig Pro I/O to garage band.

My question is, do you guys think a DI is needed? To improve the sound? Or a compressor? I have a Zoom H2N2 that I could use. In that case, where would I put it in this chain?

Any recommendations for a passive DI, in that case?

Thanks!

Here are 2 recordings made with Bass - BB800 - Go:Mixer Pro - 4xcamera app on iPad that records a video file.
No editing.
The music is recorded at the same time from the smartphone playing YouTube and going to the Roland mic in mini jack.

Please don't mind the bad playing.
What do you think of the sound?

Thank you!

Your bass sounds great over my speakers, which are the ones I use for mixing.

Do you notice a difference between the tone in the two videos? I used different EQ on the BB800 on each tune.

Because right now, to listen, i have my phone's earbuds, the cheapest Sony headphones there are and a portable Bluetooth JBL speaker. I have to buy a good set of headphones.

Yes, the Line Out can serve as an active DI. I would recommend not using phantom power on the mixer input that you plug it into.

Well, of course, I hear a BIG difference in the tone of your bass on those two songs, and to further check, I plugged in my Sennheiser 580 headphones, which lets me really hear the difference. (By the way, if you can find a good used set of the 580's, buy them...... great for mixing).

I tend to like a little "clank" in my bass, so my personal preference would be the tone you had on the first song. Your bass is super present with incredibly deep low end, but with nice even mids and just a touch of clank on the top end, just the way I like it. Perfect in my book.

However, your bass tone fits the 2nd song just fine, with a smoother, more mellow sound. Very nice.
