Quilter Bass Block

Well, I HAD the choice down to two possibilities- the BB800 or Mesa D-800... Now (of course), Mesa has gone and upped the ante with the D-800+!!! One more way to skin a cat (or scare away small children)...

My suffering (and potential for a complete GAS relapse) is greatly increased now... Darn!

Basscapes all I can say is my BB800 is absolutely amazing and the more I play it the more I love it. And when I email a question to Quilter, Pat him self replies. I have never been happier with a purchase ever. I am thinking about buying another one just for the large shows when I want a rig on both sides of the drummer. I am sure mesa makes great amps But I know the Quilter is amazing.

I'm having a hard time not buying a 2nd one too.
Not like I need a backup, and I believe these are going to be reliable as all get out, but I have 2 cabs, the F212 & the F112, which would both sing wonderfully in stereo around our drummer. I can definitely see having 2. Quilter Rocks!!!
(And I have 5 qsc speakers that makeup my PA - never a problem, like never ever)
As my drummer says, "shite is dope!" :woot::roflmao::laugh::thumbsup:

It's nice that amp makers are now including HPF's on their designs.
I really wanted a Noble preamp after watching youtube and audio clips. The cost including import duty put me off but the quality of tone from the BB800 has really scratched that itch for me. Every bass I play through the Bass Block sounds special now. My 81 Tokai Jazz that I had rarely touched recently now sounds like a world beater! My Sandberg P bass sounds like a vintage Fender going through the classic studio gear from the 60's.

I've had amps with more knobs to adjust the tone but never one that gets the tone so right in the first instance and then makes it so easy to shape it in a useable way.

The Quilter is a fantastic amp.

I'm assuming the Quilter's Deep control (turned to the left) is an HPF judging by the sound and the legend under the knob. I've been using a Fishman Platinum which has a variable frequency HPF and the BB800 deep control sounds like it operates at the frequency I normally chose on the Fishman. The new Mesa's variable frequency HPF adjusts for frequency rather than slope maybe?

Yes, it works precisely like that. I had the Hpf on my pedal board until I got this. I'm stoked to let the pedals go after falling in love with what this amp does and sounds like.
I'm using Fearless so not having the HPF was a big issue for me. It tamed it quote a bit for different rooms.
With the BB800 I just dial it away. ;):thumbsup:

I was a very early Quilter adopter. I bought a Mach 1 Micro Pro 200-8 (I also own one of the first BB800's). I asked a few questions about the choices made in designing the amp and made a few suggestions for changes to the feature set. My email was answered, in length, by Pat himself. He explained a few things that were not readily apparent about my ideas. He also spoke to the entire design and engineering process and the realities of retail sales. He spoke candidly and with a warm demeanor. Shortly after my purchase Quilter released the 200-10 and 200-12. I wanted a 200-12 instead of the 200-8. Chris Parks answered my initial email (sent on a Sunday holiday, no less) in 45 minutes. He went above and beyond to make me happy and to get a 200-12 in my hands in a VERY expeditious manner. Few manufacturers have provided service to me at this level, none have ever provided me better service . It makes a difference to me. I send out emails requesting product information from time to time and if a manufacturer doesn't bother getting back to me at all, or in a timely manner, it is extremely unlikely that I will buy their product. That being said you have to be happy with your sound so buy what suits you best, but know that service is not likely to ever be an issue with a Quilter product.

Thanks but I don't need one now :bassist:.

I do have a Fishman with the HPF and the model of the Fishman on a Zoom B3 and MS60B but, (especially with the bb800) I prefer to go straight in to the amp if possible.
The cabs I use have a decent amount of bottom end and I find a variable HPF effective to "tune to the room".

I understand the need for a "rig on either side of the drummer!" Been there, done that (had a 4 x 10 and a 2 x 18, driven by 400 Watts into each at one point in my musical life). He'd better hang on for dear life! LOL!

There have been so many people here that give props to the BB80's clean (and deep) tube-like sound. Without even hearing it, the BB800 sounds like it would be amazing through my Ampeg 810E. I'm really thinking this is the ticket then... Nothing wrong with my old SWR power amp, other than I am concerned about its road-reliability now, due to age and recently done repairs (I am an Electronics Technician, so at least labor was free)! :)

Wish there was a dealer closer than a 4 hour drive (each way, and one state over!)...

Anyone found a way to dial in some highs on their BB800? I'm still poking around for a really snotty, treble sound for a punk project. So far I've gotten close with dumping the depth knob left to about 9:00 and cranking the highs/high mids on my active bass.

I really would not bother testing one just order it. Now if it was a bass I would say different but I am telling you this amp made every cab I have tried come to life it even made my poopy SRFF805 sound better. But with my Spector 6 its just silly how much clean power this amp provides. I just jamed last night with another bass player and my drummer. Running the master at about 700 watts and the gain at 6 and it rips. All night never even got hot.

Purchase one risk free from AMS and return it within 45-days if not happy.

The cost you would eat for shipping then would be less than that of gasoline and 8-hours in your car. :thumbsup:

I continue to be very happy with the bb800 I had an open mic gig on Thursday night ,so I was supplying the back line . There were about 6 bassist that showed up and all were very happy with the amp.
They used their own pedals going into it and it was nice for me to hear it out front. Playing styles were all over the chart as were the pedals these guys brought. One guy had Warwick thumb 5 into a dark glass b3k sounded phenomenal. After playing he said how did they fit a tube in such a small amp I laughed and said it's solid state, he was needless to say shocked. Then I had this older gent with a beat up old j bass with flats it's sounded great with that bass too .just thick clean and smooth. I did switch it out for one set with the mesa d800 subway it sounded great to but didn't have the heft of the quilter IMO.

Try turning the Depth and Contour knobs 2-4 clicks to the left each and then turn the master up a click or two.
