The xlr is -20dB nominal, the xlr in on the Quilter is line level, it probably won't be loud enough
Use the 1/4” in, dime the master volume on the amp and keep the gain low to avoid hitting the limiter.
Easy peasy.

has anyone tried the Headway XLR out into Quilter XLR in and can confirm that its not enough juice to get the most out of the amp? Asking for a DB buddy.
The Headway worked fine using the XLR Out to the BB800 XLR in tonight. I was able to quickly get a great arco and pizz sound, both using Headway XLR out to the BB800 XLR in, and the Headway 1/4” Line out to BB800 1/4” in. The 1/4 was louder (there’s a 10dB difference between the nominal XLR and 1/4” outputs), but since the master and channel gains on the Headway control the XLR and Line out levels, it wasn’t an issue.
I would probably use the 1/4” out for the BB800 and save the XLR out for the PA.
Other than volume difference, the XLR In sounded the same as the 1/4” in with the Depth and Contour set flat.
I did not have time to compare this setup to my Acoustic Image driving my speaker cabs.

I'm very curious to know what preamps folks are using for upright with the Quilter : My upright is equipped with a Realist, and straight in the front end of the BB it doesn't sound convincing. The answer might be as simple as slapping a 10-band EQ pedal (just a high-pass was not enough for me) in front of the amp to tame some of the frequencies ? I don't know.
Once I've settled on a cab (or cabs) to pair with the BB, I'd really like to make it work for my upright, too. The PJB Suitcase sounds fantastic, but if I could do it all with just one setup it'd be great - I really wouldn't mind freeing up some space in my office/studio/lab!
In other news, I'm test driving an Audio Kinesis cab on Monday!

A fellow TB member is letting me borrow his Hathor 1203 for a week. I've pretty much decided on ordering from Duke, I just want to see how well a single 12'' will do with the full band (and whether or not I should rather go for the 212). I'll most likely go with his new "Changeling" cab (a Hathor with an additional rear-firing 3'' driver). Format TBD.

I'm going to grab a Fishman Platinum Stage preamp this weekend to check out with the Quilter. The Realist right into the BB800 isn't my favorite, though you can make it work. I just find the contour more suited to bass guitar.
I did have to turn the Master up to around 1 o’clock and Gain at about 10 o’clock with the XLR to XLR path. Things started to rattle on the walls at that point. Unless one was in a really big room, or outdoors without PA support, the Headway XLR should be fine.
That said, I plan to use the 1/4” to 1/4” route.
I think that would be a good choice. That’s a versatile pre-amp.
I love my Headway EDB-2 (and I don’t work for them or have Headway stock). With its 5 band EQ, HPF(3 different settings) and variable notch filter (freq and Q/width), ground lift, phase switch, etc. I have been able to use my upright with many different cabs, amps,powered cab and different stages using either and Ehrlund EAP or Ischell contact mic.
Works well with electric bass too.
Anything with a buffer and EQ would work. If you already have a buffer And high pass filter than putting a graphic equalizer in line will be fine. I personally have success with the Fishman Pro Platinum, the radial pz pre, using the F deck buffer and high pass filter with just about any other preamp that I own including Aguilar tone hammer or just a boss EQ pedal, or my current favorite, which you can't own because he doesn't make it any more! The Broughton Studio One which I had modified to have a high input impedanceInteresting. if the volume is there, are you going to use 1/4" connection for the increased volume, Quilters tone shaping, or to free up your headways XLR out as a send?

Wow - sorry Charlie, I gave this 5-6 minutes but that has to be THE worst demo video I have ever seen. No sound for 6 minutes, terrible bass playing, clipping, bad camera work, unscripted, fumbling around..... does nothing to push me towards buying this amp. In fact quite the opposite.
Not to talk you out of an AK (there is nothing quite like a Hathor/Changeling with those paper cone mids!) but did you see this?

I agree with you that a pre/post switch on the DI would be ideal. However, after spending some time with my Quilter Mini 101, I am a convert to the "Quilter way" of using the DI. The reason being, there are some very cool sounds to be achieved by adjusting the Gain control, then turning the Master control in the opposite direction to compensate. If the Master didn't affect the DI, then you wouldn't be able to adjust the Gain without drastically affecting the front of house volume.
