Quirky Things You Do As A Bassist

I know it’s gross, but I don’t really wash my hands all night. I like them dry, if I wash them just before a set they’re grabby.

Oddly enough, that's why I wash them! My hands sweat a lot and after set-up they are pretty grubby. After I wash them I dry them very well with the towel in my gig bag!

All of my tuners MUST be straight to each other!

I find that I can hear variations of BPM better than almost any drummer I’ve played with, and I can also tell which band mates may be unsure of the arrangement/song.
(quirky?)
At a gig my awareness is basically everywhere but my own rig(after I set up), how is the band feeling, can we all hear each other well enough, are we getting a thumbs up from the sound guy?
Somehow I am able to set that stuff aside at least enough to enjoy the show, smile and help the music come alive.
And, I actually love looking into the eyes of the audience as they flow with us!
Is that quirky I wonder?

I heavily favor the A string. Everything I do builds from that string. It's the basis of how I conceptualize the fretboard.

Same, but with the E. Granted, I started my bass playing in the 80s playing metal (E chug for the win). From open E to the top harmonic on the G, From minor to major with any bizarre mode you wanna throw in I have full mastery of my fret board. Just don't change the key.

About 4-5 years ago (my "getting back into music" point) I started intentionally working other keys. G, A, C and D are now MUCH easier for me but still lack that top to bottom of the fret board comfort. F and B kinda throw me still, as its too easy to just hide in a mode I am more comfortable in. Some day...

Oh, and while I CAN use my ring finger, that pesky pinky claims the octave and fifth if I don't consciously use my ring finger. Weird considering I have huge hands and the stretch isn't challenging.

Hrmmmm. After typing this out I have realized my "quirks" are bad habits I have managed to retain and hide.
