agreed. It’s easy to take a shaker for granted due to its simplicity
I don't mind defending my gender. It's normal. Putting gender slurs in a post opens the door to responses. That's all. I assume you would like the same level of respect. It's not a big deal. Seriously. @Chicory Blue I enjoy your posts or I wouldn't read them.Stop.

FINE!
I have no choice but to QUIT TB OFF TOPIC in protest of Chicory's decision to quit bass.
And also because COLD TURKEY has slipped down the charts.

Thank you! Someday I will write something, somehow- I promise.
I don’t think the apple shaker really needed my help to be awesome, though. It’s easy to take a shaker for granted due to its simplicity, but having a clean, focused hi-hat sound in your hand is pretty powerful stuff, and it’s a lot less unwieldy than a tambourine.
You can coax a surprising array of tones from it depending on whether you shake it, tilt it, tap it, swirl it, etc, and I think the sheer spectacle of getting such an inoffensive but vital sound from a faux fruit makes it easier to be confident in a performance since it’s harder to mistake me for someone who takes herself seriously.
Since I generally don’t sing and prefer to conjure sad, bluesy songs in the moment, it can be difficult to convey a sense of humor through music, but I think my current palette of cheap slash explicitly toy instruments is helping my *real* message finally take shape.

Try telling that to our drummer. We wanted him to do something tasteful with hand percussion for our acoustic band (i.e. other than wack things hard and often). He really struggled with an egg shaker, maracas, cabasa (?sp), and tambourine. In the end he spat his dummy out saying he was a drummer not a percussionist.I don’t think the apple shaker really needed my help to be awesome, though. He then attempted to play harmonica very very very badly.I’m coming to terms with the fact that I don’t need to be an incredible bass hero to be a musician
