This is not a tragedy. This is the entirely predictable and inevitable death of a drug addict with more money than sense.
A tragedy is what happened in Oslo yesterday.
Of course no parent should have to bury their child, but this has been on the cards for some time.

No one is saying this is a tragedy. Someone known worldwide for her talent has passed away and we're just saying RIP. She's not worse than you, me or anyone here because she was addicted to drugs. Do you think druggies don't want to stop?
Agreed. Not a tragedy. This was the slowest moving train wreck I've seen in a while.
Also any moderately talented artist that dies at 27 doesn't automatically become a member of the 27 club. She wasn't even in the same planet as Hendrix and Cobain.

Sorry but I'm not with you here. Competition? no it isn't. But when a person sets themselves on a path that will ultimately lead to their destruction - it's hard to have much sympathy for them. Winehouse was hell bent and determined to go out this way.
I saw it with Joplin. I saw it with Morrison. I saw it with Hendrix, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc - ad nauseum.
Those kids at that camp were just trying to have a little fun and never expected to be MURDERED for that.
In my old-age way of thinking - there is absolutely no comparison there. My sympathy for Winehouse' family and fans, but does this really surprise anyone?

As a talent she really was.
Amy Winehouse was a talented artist with a problem.
I'm about the same age as you, Stank56, and I've also seen a few friends die of drug abuse over the years.
And all of them insisted that they could stop whenever they wanted. This is the insidious thing about casual drug use, which frequently becomes abuse.
It's a kitten that one day becomes a tiger, and then you can't control it.

The tragedy is that a fellow human being pissed away their life. I've been in recovery for about 18 years, this is a predictable outcome for an addict. Predictable and tragic.
The first time I heard Amy was years back on the Jools Holland Show after another act had pulled out, just her and a guitar, I thought she was a very real talent in the making, a great performance and very emotive. She was someone else back then before she lost herself in 'that' scene, sleep well Amy

IMHO it doesn't matter all that much if others were more talented or kept up a more responsible lifestyle. What matters is that many liked to hear her sing (also I) and that she died far before her time. It's a tragedy.

Very very sad. I'm no fan of her music but her handlers should have been there for her. They should be ashamed.
