R.I.P. Amy Winehouse

I have to be perfectly honest here. The old saying "You reap what you sow" comes to mind. Can't comment on the demons she was fighting, but they obviously won. I'm finding it hard to muster up any sympathy for her, since there's so much help available out there nowadays. She should have been able to get help, but she chose not to. Sad.

The first time I heard Amy was years back on the Jools Holland Show after another act had pulled out, just her and a guitar, I thought she was a very real talent in the making, a great performance and very emotive. She was someone else back then before she lost herself in 'that' scene, sleep well Amy

Agreed. Not a tragedy. This was the slowest moving train wreck I've seen in a while.

Also any moderately talented artist that dies at 27 doesn't automatically become a member of the 27 club. She wasn't even in the same planet as Hendrix and Cobain.

Subjective, isn't it? I still fail to see how people can claim Cobain was a talent, especially when you look at the other members of the 27 club.

Being the main band to bring MTV and music out of the Whitney Houston/Phil Collins blah pop stage is pretty darn significant. I would put that above what Joplin did, but not Hendrix.

Winehouse has no business being mentioned in the same realm as any of them. Pretty much a one hit wonder here in the states.

Amy was a nice talented kid with a decent smoky-contralto voice, who let her handlers build a huge stressful money-machine around her.... the whole irony-laden ripoff (sorry, "homage") of the Motown/Stax sound, coupled with that one-year transformation from "talented nice-girl singer in a dress" to "ratty 80-lb. ironic-beehive coke-Ho troll with 20 pre-fab old-school tats" thing probably also messed with her mind a bit... the IMAGE of the retro-hipster bad-grrrrl overtook the REAL person, and nobody in her camp (aside from her dad, by most accounts) wanted to mess with the cash cow possibilities, no matter the cost. somebody put up a pre-blowup picture of her earlier in this thread- focused, sincere, sweet, NOT the slo-mo trainwreck deer-in-the-headlights look of her "ironic motown" era. lesson to be learned- TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE. r.i.p.

Ah, youth and great success and ego. Wonderful thing except for stupid inabilities to make a coherent choice for yourself. Not surprised at all, and don't think its sad. If anything its another <usually futile>lesson for those who may need it . The word "NO" can actually be a good and valid word to all the vultures out there. If you are an adult, make an adult decision. Nothing says you have to let "handlers" handle you all the way to bankruptcy or death. She, the adult, was the source of her own problems. No one else. She was. But no biggie---outta 6-7 billion humans, she's was just 1. Ipso facto--no biggie.

She wasn't even in the same universe as Hendrix and Morrison to be honest. But RIP none the less, I don't feel sorry for her but I do for her friends, fans, and family who had to watch her come to this.

Well some of us know that she is not dead.
She have just gone where the other great musicians that suddenly "die" go. The secret island were most famous and exlusively rich people go to live forever, as they are offered the cure for dying. She have simply joined the exclusive 27 Club there for retirement.

It's not for the fun of it I always wear a tin foil hat. See I know too much of that kind of supposed secret stuff.

Some people in here really have a holier than thou attitude towards people with severe drug problems. IMO some of you have never someone close destroyed by drugs.
