Rat Fur Poll

I think rats look best covered in fur. If you've ever seen pictures of those hideous bald mole rats, you'll agree with me.

Carpet on cabs? Not my preference.

Just a quick poll to see what the general opinion is on rat fur.

Don't care what covers the cab as long as it sounds good.

I have two rat fur Cabs for sale. I think that's part of why nobody wants them. I personally will never buy Rat Fur Cabs again. For Sale - 2 for 1 sale Avatar B115 Bass Cab W/3015LF and B210 Neo's (Eminence USA)

My guess is the 4 ohms is a bigger reason. Not many heads can handle 2ohms. You have a limited audience.

Hate it. It looks good for about the first five minutes then collects every small bit of debris that gets near it. And, if you live in a damp climate, it can go permanently mouldy.

I'm not a fan at all. It looks cheap and it's hard to keep clean. Plus I have a cat that claims every piece of musical gear as her personal sitting spot. That equals to a cat fur covering.

I didn't vote because my idea wasn't covered.

I don't like it and if given the choice will buy something without it. But it won't stop me from buying gear that is what I'm looking for because of it.

I've had one cabinet with it, a bergantino HT-322. Nice cabinet but I would prefer not having fur.

"Rat fur" bears little resemblance to actual rat fur, or any other animal hair for that matter.

Good point. I am glad my heads are good down to 2Ohms. One is even good for two sets of 2 Ohm cabs.

About 10 years ago, I had 2 GK cabs with rat fur. I ended up stripping them and recovering them with a roll-on truck bed liner. The finish was indestructible and they looked great. Last year I had 2 Hartke cabs with rat fur. I liked the sound but hated the look. Always collecting dust, lint, etc. Even worse if you own pets. I sold the Hartke cabs but not because of the rat fur. I just wanted to go back to the Ampeg sound. I'm not a big fan of tolex either but it's better than rat fur.

I think the manufacturers should use real rat fur. That would lower the rat population, but PETA would have a fit.

I've always been curious as to why modern manufacturers still cover bass cabinets in bloody carpet.

Now that bars/clubs are smoke free and I've never had a cat, I don't mind rat-fur. In fact I think it holds up better than most other coverings. I've never felt the need to buy a cover for my rat-fur cabs because they can take the banging without any noticeable wear.

This. Tolex scratches and rips if you bang it. The rat fur on my Bergantino cab will, I'm sure, survive a nuclear attack.

This reminded me, just when I got back from active duty I got a job cleaning carpet. Wife called about a few blood stains. When i get there the story was, husband got drunk and cut his hand on a bottle. Blood from the entryway up the stairs and covering the carpet covered bathroom. Looked like a murder scene! Standouts of that... blood doesnt easily come out of carpet even with professional products, women should wear a bra under a translucent shirt before they invite strangers inside, and make sure the teenage boy clears his porno stash before asking to move the bed and clean underneath!

Dang... forgot to tie it in with the music gear. They did in fact, have a lot of carpet covered PA equipment in the garage, which looked in poor condition from cats and loading in.

I never understood the rabid dislike for rat fur. It's durable and long lasting and that's all that matters to me. It doesn't appear as stylish as other types of covering, but the only people looking at amp gear onstage are those ding dongs that look at your amp's labels while you're on break on a gig.

One bump with a mic stand or guitar case and the clean look of even the toughest, most professionally applied tolex is ruined. Rat fur all the way.

Don't SWR call it ''Ozite''? I guess they think it will sell better than ''Super Durability Rat Fur''.
