I'm with you to a point. Aesthetically, carpet doesn't bother me. Functionally, carpet is durable to some issues but susceptible to other issues like moisture, mold, cat claws, and smoke. The trade-off is which of these issues is a deal beaker, and which are tolerable.
I'm not fond of it. My fave is rubber truck bed lining. I have an ISP cab covered with it. Strong stuff.

There's really cats like that. One's named Venus which is really popular. My wife is a crazy cat enthusiast.... that's how I know.
I was 2 pages into this before I actually realized "rat fur" actually was not RAT FUR.
I have had a rat fur covered amp, but luckily I also have a very lazy cat, so durability never came into play, but the accumulated combo of dog and cat fur did make it hard to keep it from looking like a giant furry cube.

Because of cats and stink from smoke and spilled drinks, I prefer hard coatings. But a good cab is a good cab.
I don't like Rat Fur. But it doesn't stop me from purchasing other wise great gear that happens to be covered in RF. For instance my Traynor SB115.

Indifferent, as long is it's Bag End Rat. They breed their own superior quality rats. My 90's BE looks fine. It's not fuzzed out and a couple of minutes with a good vacuum made it look good again.
I don't mind it/indifferent. I like that I can velcro pedals or other gear to it. I hate that I have to vacuum pet hair off it (my big dog sheds like a fluff beast).

Yea my two Bag End red rat fur cabs still look just fine and of course they sound great.

Well, I see i'm In the minority here by a large margin. I have Eden gear, and it's the only choice. Over the years I've had just about every type of covering devised by the mind of man. My cabs are over 10 years old and still look presentable.
Now, if I had pets, I might feel different. I had a cab at my buddy's house for about an hour. His cat took to it and immediately proceeded used it as a scratching post. Well, we caught him quickly and locked him in another room. Even still, the loose cat fur in the house affixed it's self to the cab, and it took me about an hour and a half to clean it off when I got back home.
I'd like to point out that this thread is incredibly insensitive to rats.
