I'm starting to think that I'm not cut out for this refinishing malarkey. A lack of experience and knowledge seems to always result in very sub-par results.

In saying that, I'm still going to try and do a bit of a reverse burst on my current project with black base coat and a red burst around the edges.
At least now I know to do several coats 10 minutes apart but do I let the base black coat properly dry before doing the burst at the edge, or do I do the coats of the black 10 minutes apart and then do the red edge 10 minutes after the final black coat?

I know that we are all our own worst critic, but that looks really nice. It looks like you did a great job.

I refinished my mid 90s MIA Jazz with ReRanch lake placid blue metallic.

I followed their steps exactly, and it came it perfect.

I found it very easy and fun. I want to do it again!

Definitely went too heavy on the clear coat on mine. It's SOFT. Gonna just stick a fan on it for weeks I guess.

Well, I'm going to call this one "finished".
It's far, far from perfect.... not really even approaching "good".
But it's a lot better than it was and I learned a few things.
One is that when I finish the next one on by bench I'm pretty sure it'll be the last time I attempt a refinish. I just don't seem to have the knowledge, skills, patience and carefulness that is required to get a really good result. This one already has a small ding in it from when I was putting it all back together because I'm a complete clutz.
It's very frustrating to put so much time and effort in before starting spraying, to then spray and see all manner of issues. With this one it was as though the can spat out some small solid particles on the last coat. It was actually looking quite good until then. I did a bit of sanding with 2000grit and then polish which helped but to do the whole thing would have taken umpteen hours which I just wasn't going to do for this bass which was designed for getting thrown in the car on road trips, taken to backyard BBQ's and camping trips etc.
Oh well, live and learn.

I never have the patience to let the clear cure for long enough. By the time I get to that point I just want to be done and play it!

I beat the hell out of my basses anyway so I don’t worry about it.

I love it! I’ve had the same issues as you with the finishes. There’s something perfect about imperfection anyway. That little bass is awesome!

It's a really cool little bass which has gotten a lot more play than I expected. It fits into a medium travel bag when I take the neck off so I can fly with it when work or play takes me on a plane.

Hate to say on my Spring Green P body, I'm not sure what else to do but wait. Been a month and it's still soft enough to dent with a fingernail.

Have it sitting next to a radiator heater with a fan. I had hoped the weather would be sunny enough in November to leave it out in the UV, but it was cold and rainy most of the month.

Good to know. It might need a little more juice, so I might try soapy water and the #00 s
Scotch Brite stuff, then the #0000. Thanks!

No, this was all Rustoleum enamel. As far as I can tell it's all oil-based

I really laid the clear on there so I'm gonna just hope that it's just thick n soft... just trying to forget about it. But I'm dying to get it going too.

If I could, I'd bake it in the oven haha

I'd even looked for a UV lamp but I haven't seen anything that would be cost-effective

Try it in the oven for 15 minutes....see if it helps?
Rustoleum always seems hit or miss with
All depends on whats underneath...or in the air.....shook up enough?
Too thick?
