Another one finished. Picked this one up for peanuts from a local CL seller. It's a Fernandes J, year unknown. It was in pieces and very badly refinished, but it included everything except for the pickups and strings. Paint is Rust-Oleum 2X Poppy Red Satin (a dead ringer for Fiesta Red) with 2X matte clear buffed out to matte. Before/after below.
Agreed! That's my wife's BMW 230i. I really want to do a bass in that color.The colour of that car would look fantastic on a bass!
Man that is a great save! It looks fantastic.
Gorgeous refin though I gotta admit that, poorly executed though it may have been, I also liked the prior color.
Also I really appreciate the minimalist approach to the electronics.
Ha, right. Haven't wired them up yet, so for now, it's an acoustic model.
Oh I thought you just wired both pickups straight to the jack. Which is a thing I def wanna try.
Would somebody mind terribly reposting a picture of the contraption that they (I think it was @friskinator?) use to rotate the bodies while spraying? I don't think I have patience to scroll back through the many pages of this thread...

I made one outta pvc, with a copper pipe (cause I had a piece of thick wall copper hanging around)

90's Yamaha RBX 24 fret neck, shop built fir/pine P body. Neck pocket was quite the adventure due to the deeper neck.
Rustoleum 2X primer, gloss black, matte clear. Light polishing with old T-shirt and also some light relic'ing. Volume only, dummy tone circuit is under the hood.
I'm happy.

An old post but I noticed it hasn't been answered yet - when attempting to match the amber of an existing neck finish you need to mix your own tint using stains. (I would use thinner-based stain) It may be a blend of a few (pint-sized) hues from the hardware/paint store. Once you have it as close as possible and fully cured - satin matte clear.
Yes! Or something like it. It's new and was too glossy. I 'aged' it some with 1000 grit paper.

Nice! I really like those plates. I used one on a recent build myself (https://www.talkbass.com/threads/d-rs-build-thread.1591463/page-5#post-28877851).
I made one from a 2x6, a 2x4 and a piece of PVC attached to it with 4" screws.
Ask and you shall receive! BMW Thundernight Metallic with 2K clear. Not polished yet, but it looks pretty good already.The colour of that car would look fantastic on a bass!
