no it doesn't come off once dried it actually sunk in a little and dyed it like a stain or dye would . It was also sealed with Min wax wipe on and that stuff is great . I've done several builds with nothing but the min wax satin . Love that stuff . So it's pretty well locked in . FTR I don't think it would come off even if it wasn't sealed beyond just using it by itself . It has shellac in it and seals it somewhat just by using it alone .

That looks fantastic. Just curious, did you have any issues with the grain raising? I've read it can be an issue as can sanding too soon. Did you sand prior to the wipe on finish or shellac? Did you wipe the body with acetic acid or anything prior to the ink? I think the acetic acid is referred to as a mordant and is supposed to help the ink bond with the wood fibers.

I used the wipe-on Minwax on my last build (the gloss version) and I'm sold on it for easy finishes. The instrument (a 30" scale fretless) looks like it's candy coated.

I dyed and sanded back to pop the grain and then wiped on several coats of the poly.

I did raise the grain and left it , I wanted it to show . I did wipe it once with naphtha just to make sure there was no dirt on it . I also blew off the grain with compressed air hoping to get as much grain showing as I could . Alder is pretty tight grained and wanted to make sure . I buffed it with 0000 steel wool after the first ink dried , blew it off again and repeated . I did not sand it at all right from the box it was a go .

me too and especially on necks . The satin is such a nice neck finish .

Finished my Guild JS-II. Sherwood green from Gracey's. Looks darker as I shot it over brown instead of white or silver primer. Buffed out with a natural pad I got at an auto paint store and Meguiars fine cut cleaner. Worked great.
