So I'm still frustrated by the current state of my refin (though I'm nit-picky and prone to being self-critical).

I took some shots of what it will look like when assembled. I was wondering if the general consensus is that I should just go ahead and shoot my clear (spray max 2k) or if I really should sand this down and buy/spray more color.

A friend of mine swears by Dupli-Color for cars. The Rustoleum finish I'm currently working on isn't going to be anything close to a factory finish so if I get tired of it I will refin it next year in something similar to lake placid blue or ice blue metallic using Dupli-Color.

I used dupli-color on a tele kit (Toyota beige) and really liked it.

If you ask me I like it! It kinda looks satiny and metallic and those knobs look fantastic! Sounds like you really want to shoot the clear I don't see anything in the pics that really bothers me if it was mine I say go fir it!

Here's my Squier VM Jag Bass refin progress so far. I'm using Rustoleum 2X Ocean Mist as a faux surf green. Up close there are a multitude of imperfections. However, in low light from about 3' away it's going to look just fine. The young super-attractive groupies in the first row of the audience will not know the difference.

Looks pretty good judging from these pics - the pickguard and bridge either cover up any imperfections or are visually distracting enough to de-emphasis any issues.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input!!!!!I'll most likely shoot clear after letting it dry/cure for a week or so.

I'm not necessarily in a rush to shoot clear, but I went through 5 cans of primer (after only anticipating 2 coats based on things I've read) and several weeks of spraying, letting dry, filling, sanding, repeat, so I'm just frustrated. I'm also worried about losing the opportunity to spray as it's getting colder.

Actually, now that you pointed out how cool the satin is, I think I'm gonna order a different clear coat because I realized I really like it. I'm gonna stick with the catalyzed spray max stuff. Do you think I should go with the matte or the satin clear?

Bruh that has to be your call, you put the work in! I am definitely a fan of satin finishes and here is a headstock I just finished using gloss black with a satin poly clear.

The scratch plate is flat black paint with the same satin poly. Not a huge difference but different, the satin poly over the gloss looks a little I dont know "deeper" best bet (if possible, $ wise) try both on test piece if you have any color left to be sure it is too your liking.

I like the satin headstock! That's probably what I should have gone with. Satin hides flaws a little better too.

Thanks satin poly is what I had left over after a furniture project fir the wifey so I used it...

My bad! I didn't mean for you to make my decision, I just noticed the other varieties spray max offers and wasn't sure what would yield the result I'm looking for.

Based on your pics, satin looks like the way to go!!

Re-ranch Orange . It's a clear orange to capture that old "Gretch orange". The more coats you add the darker or deeper the orange. This was about 2 cans of orange followed by 4 cans of Watco clear laquer rattle cans.
tech specs: warmoth alder P body, fretless neck wenge fingerboard, Bartolini P/J and NTMB preamp.

Just in case you missed it at least two people in this thread have had issues with the Spray Spraymax stuff. Your color coat looks good and I like the satin/matte look.

I also like a satin finish (nitro). It gives a very soft sheen that feels great and looks more vintage/aged. It's also a lot easier to deal with; light sanding with a sanding pad between coats and don't touch after the final coat - a really user/player friendly finish. High gloss has its place, but satin is a very nice alternative.

Looks good - hit it with clear nitro and leave it in the sun for a while... Jaguar green?

Yeah. British racing green. The correct color was "Deep Forest green" but it reminded me of the old jaguars I loved growing up.
