Rattle Can Refinish Club

I’d like the finish to be a bit smoother, though. Is there anything I can do to remove the imperfections without turning it into a gloss?

All that is done on the next to last coat. The smoother it is, the smoother the final coat will be. If using a pro-spray gun, it's more controllable. You can only get so smooth with a rattle can.

I'm going to leave it as is. I'm happy overall with how it looks. I only did one can of clear since I wouldn't be sanding or polishing, but I have another one. Would you recommend doing the second can, or am I good to go?

One whole can on the body? That's plenty. I normally keep the last clear-coat minimal as I am a fan of wear on a bass played, and a thin coat of nitro will allow wear to occur.

This one is coming out nicely. I was planning on selling it once I finished, but since I don’t own a Jazz, I might keep it. The lighting makes it look like Sonic Blue, but it’s got some green in it.

Got Shell Pink nitro and tinted clear coming tomorrow from Madison music(Gracey's). Using a Vintera jazz body with a perfect Firemist Gold finish. Anybody think Aged Shell Pink would look good relic'ed with some gold showing underneath? Debating weather to leave it virgin, or relic it. Just don't like the gold, and the alder body only weighs 4.3lbs. and has 70's spacing. I have painted several basses, and have the ability to achieve a nice finish, but maybe the relic would look cool? Once the relic starts, there is no going back!

I like a relic done well. I agree about the current version of Firemist Gold Metallic. Not very close to an original late '60s version.

View attachment 4313314 Bought a 2003 Affinity p bass with a neck that had a broken truss rod for a little bit of nothing. A little routing, some Testors Model Master Tropical Turquoise, new neck with some automotive metal flake black, wood pickguard dyed with alcohol dyed, Epic Custom Shop pickups and here it is. Before and after.
That is my crappy handwriting in silver sharpie on the headstock. Cleared over it.

I got a squier II that need clean and fixed up.. then frets are green with rust.. I have plenty of white basses.. so I wanna paint it as Friesta red and coral burst.. plain is to sand the old finish.. and paint over it.. but I need to find the right colors to get the vibe.. I want.. I got a bunch of krylon glitter blast clear.. for a dollar each.. I thinking fiesta red on the edge.. and coral in the center.... I don't care if it scratches of showing the paint underneath I think lest paint is more.. so what paint and colors do you suggest.. to get the fiesta red and coral pink.. it'll be getting a gold pickguard..
