Real fear

Terrifying!! One of my recurring nightmares features playing various gigs at Sefcik Hall while moving gear up and even worse down their infamous, narrow and precarious stairs. I couldn't count the number of times I carried heavy and expensive often rare pieces of gear on those stairs. Most folks that have attended an event at Sefcik Hall have several stories of mishaps on said stairs often after a night of partying, drinking and dancing for hours. While they did have beer available they also sold "set ups", mixers and ice, for those bringing their own liquor as they couldn't sell anything but beer.

Big bass & guitar cabs were not the only challenging gear on those stairs as most bands had an electric piano, organ and the PA of the day were old "Voice of the Theater" or the redoubtable Peavey SP1 cabs with subs and those power amps were finger breaking boat anchors. The stairs were narrow and many pieces had to be stood op or carried at a difficult angle where there were no handles. Hand trucks were useless due to the stair dimensions that were shallow and higher than normal. For that reason it was a cheap hall to rent for events but many many bands refused to play gigs there after one experience. There was a house PA system that most bands used but it was not loud enough to ROCK. Some well known rock players from several bands has an annual Christmas Night gig that ran for decades. My sister had her Wedding dance at Sefcik, but I didn't play I had designated driver duties, mainly so no one would decorate the car I drove, my Mom's beloved Cadillac [I had a bit of a reputation to not cross].
