Real Rickenbacker?

Hey all! Just got an amazing deal on this rickenbacker bass—or at least I think I did…

Is this an actual rickenbacker bass? It’s the hardcase and certificate that come with it that’s making me think it might be legit. The price however was lowest I’ve ever seen a rickenbacker in “excellent condition” go for so I’m having doubts.

Looks like a nice 4003S to me. Pretty sure its got one of those new bridges on it. Either that or Mr Hall has really got something to worry about. Enjoy your amazing deal.

Congrats on the new bass. Do you have a picture of the serial number on the jack plate? You can look it up on the Ric website for date verification.

Definitely do this. $500 for a like-new, late model 4003S seems a bit too good to be true. In your shoes, I would verify that the serial number is valid and contact authorities to see if that serial number is attached to any criminal claims.

That's hot! I mean, it might be hot as in stolen. Brand new ones like that would be going for $1500 from dealers, but $500 brings a lot of red flags with it. Did you buy it from an individual or a pawn shop? Sumpin ain't right here.

Its a 4003S. 'S' model means it doesn't have the binding or triangle inlays. That version V2 bridge indicates is a pretty new model recently made in the last ~2 years...basically nearly new.
