Real Rickenbacker?

The listings are unquestionably fake. The OP's angle is less clear as he didn't post links to any of the listings; he posted the pics directly. That's kind of a lot of effort.

The only posts he's ever made are the two in this thread and he cleared out pretty quickly after those two.

I wonder if there's some kind of SEO black magic aided by the pictures appearing on this board and the OP is trying to work it.

Allright. Think I got to the bottom of it. The seller wanted my adress first. I provided a random one. He then proceeded to ask me to pay via Shopify, because paypal is blocked. Sent me a screenshot of a blocked paypal.
So yeah, at the VERY LEAST, it's a dishonest seller attempting to get around reverb fee.
But I'm pretty sure this is just a straight up scam, and that you'll be getting a 20$ chickenbacker, if anything...

By the way, Australia has had problems with illegal import from asian countries for a long long time....

Edit: BTW! I think I've seen that guitar-stand before. Specifically right here on the forum.. Might be worth going through old for sale ads to see if the photos in question are lifted directly from here..

Shopify lets you setup a free 14 day account and scammers will use that to look more legit. You can get an ApplePay account through Shopify, for example. I was scammed on a pair of sneakers by one of scams and was hesitant, it was a good deal but not a great deal. The ApplePay angle was what convinced my that it was legit. I assumed you had to go through some sort of check to be able to offer ApplePay as a vendor. Not so. And ApplePay offers no buying protection at all. They just process the transaction. I eventually got my money back, but it was a pain.

Rickenbacker Rickenbacker 4003S | Reverb

Has to be a scam. Same listing in Australia posted 40 minutes ago on Reverb. Free shipping from Australia and the seller has no feedback. Enter at your own risk.

Seller has a picture of a new 4003S and tells the buyer he won't ship until he receives the money, adios dinero. I fell for a scam like that on Etsy a few years ago with a 70's 4001, got my money back from PayPal as I got suspicious right away and reported it, can't remember what tipped me off though.

It's either stolen or one of those reverb scams where they put it up then disable their account or something get your money. I would be cautious honestly some I know are more risk takers this IMO is wayyyy too good be to be true but do what you feel at your own risk.

Not even that anymore m8. Rickenbacker has upped the price since the pandemic. IIRC the standard price is now about 2500 for S models and 3000 for stereo models.. Used market hasnt caught quite up to that yet, but it's getting there..

I didn't realize you are in Norway, so certainly the prices will be higher for you there. In the U.S. the retail price is $2149 for the 4003S as in your picture, but large dealers will frequently charge less. $1500 is not uncommon. But I believe $500 for a brand new, mint condition 4003S raises caution flags. Do you now have this exact instrument or are you in the process of obtaining it?

Did you or the seller take those photos ? They are pretty bad since it's nearly dark. There are some scammers on Reverb who just ship a case of bleach from the dollar store because it weighs about the same and once it's shipped the money is released. I saw that on Youtube from a guy who bought a Les Paul.

I would think Reverb has changed their policy. I went to buy something the other day and I was SO excited I forgot to look at the seller's profile first. He had ZERO feedback and is in Lithuania. Nothing against the Baltics, because I'm half Estonian, but Reverb cancelled the sale.

WOW what a scam.... Glad OP decided to post here. This place is awesome.
Yes, I agree !!
I think Talkbass should have a required "How to buy on Reverb" class. :)
Wait, we're doing that now ! :)

I would like to think that we are all solid people here and I can't think of a time in all the years I've been here of a "family member" being scammed, because to ME, you are ALL family.
