Yeah, that's a standard 4003S, and with the newest bridge. So it's either a later than 2017 model, or he bought the bridge separately.

Either way, a massive score. Someone didnt know what they were selling....

That's hot! I mean, it might be hot as in stolen. Brand new ones like that would be going for $1500 from dealers, but $500 brings a lot of red flags with it. Did you buy it from an individual or a pawn shop? Sumpin ain't right here.

Not even that anymore m8. Rickenbacker has upped the price since the pandemic. IIRC the standard price is now about 2500 for S models and 3000 for stereo models.. Used market hasnt caught quite up to that yet, but it's getting there..

Yeah, it's Legit, but at that price I'd seriously consider it may be stolen. Not the OP's fault of course. I know Ricresource maintains a kind of informal stolen bass list if the OP has any doubts. The serial number would tell you when it was built, but that's got to be at least a 2020-2021 model with the V2 bridge.

Please tell us this isn't an Aliexpress purchase. They have been known to use genuine Ric bass photos to sell Chickenbackers, no F's given from the crack Aliexpress team. it's still the Wild West over there, despite what you occasionally read on TB.

Allright. Think I got to the bottom of it. The seller wanted my adress first. I provided a random one. He then proceeded to ask me to pay via Shopify, because paypal is blocked. Sent me a screenshot of a blocked paypal.
So yeah, at the VERY LEAST, it's a dishonest seller attempting to get around reverb fee.
But I'm pretty sure this is just a straight up scam, and that you'll be getting a 20$ chickenbacker, if anything...

By the way, Australia has had problems with illegal import from asian countries for a long long time....

Edit: BTW! I think I've seen that guitar-stand before. Specifically right here on the forum.. Might be worth going through old for sale ads to see if the photos in question are lifted directly from here..

Looks legit to me. But $500? I'm all for a good deal but that's treadin' on karma territory right there.

I once bought a MIJ Fender Geddy Lee for $325 with case and leather strap. Flipped it and doubled my money. No guilt/shame

If it’s too good to be true, it usually is. That $1000 mid sixties Strat I found on CL about 10 years ago and waited for an hour too meet a waitress in a restaurant parking lot turned out to be...to good to be true. I wanted it to be real so bad I went in the restaurant and they had never heard of the girl. I think the guy and girl who pulled up in an old truck about 5 min after I pulled in may have been the ripoff crew, but they decided against it and left. Maybe I looked like a cop...

Anyway, yeah. Although I did score a 74 Jazz for $700 off CL back in ‘08 that I drove from out of state to snag. Tripled my money on that one.

Damn right. But I feel like during the pandemic, there was a legitimate increase in "closet" finds and people selling cheap because they didnt know what they had. Likely because so many people were stuck at home and cleaned up garages, atticts etc. I made some very good deals during this time myself.
But, conditions like that bring out the scammers...

Btw, I see that OP has a fairly new account, maybe he's using it to see if we would catch his scam...

Hey all! Just got an amazing deal on this rickenbacker bass—or at least I think I did…

Is this an actual rickenbacker bass? It’s the hardcase and certificate that come with it that’s making me think it might be legit. The price however was lowest I’ve ever seen a rickenbacker in “excellent condition” go for so I’m having doubts.
