I love and appreciate the drummers I work with. Most of them are really talented. Bass is my main instrument, so I consider myself part of the rhythm section, which means my relationship to the one hitting the high-hat, snare, bass drum, cymbals, etc. is incredibly important. My only complaints do not concern the people themselves as much as the hassles of dragging around drum equipment and finding someone to reliably fill that role.

I've never complained about drummers around here, almost every drummer I play/played with have been great players with way more training than me, and always my buds. Very lucky!

Meh, it’s an internet forum. I actually somewhat agree with the OP, there is a ton of negativity towards guitarists on this site, some jokingly, some direct, and definitely some passive-aggressive comments too. But it’s an internet forum, where all the keyboard warriors come out to play.

If people really dislike lead guitarists as much as what is shown on this forum, I feel really bad for most everyone as they likely haven’t played in a real band, ever. I have only played with 1 bad lead guitarist in nearly 20 years of playing in bands. Maybe I’m lucky, maybe the pool of talent in California is larger than other places (I doubt it), who knows.

Anyways, OP, just ignore those comments. There is actually a ton of good information on this site as well as a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people. Just like any place on the internet, you have to do some work on your own and sift through the BS to find some really great information.

As a drummer primarily, I play bass, guitar, & keyboards too. This continual nonsense of bashing....you know all the names you use! It’s barely humorous. Grow the f up and think about what it takes to be a better player. And a team player. Bands are a dime a dozen. Either you’re happy with your situation or walk away. Communication is the key! I’ve played with some incredibly talented musicians and some that had minimal experience. You can’t go wrong with either - assuming the passion ia there!

First post in four years? Cool, but it's a joke. When we find a great drummer, it makes the gig awesome. But, we'll still tell drummer jokes.

I Bass Therefore I Drum!! Started drumming in the early 60’s and took up the bass shortly after! Can’t imagine one without the other! I was really fortunate to have spent some time with the late/great William Bubba Bryant! Drummer for the Backstreet Boys Television and many other famous musicians. When he passed he was the drummer for the Temptations. His was a very real instrument. Check out his videos on YouTube!

It's true. I moved back to Michigan from SoCal about 3 years ago (Why? I don't know but moving back to Cali in a few months) and found the lack of talent here, at least in my small musical world, disturbing and frustrating. In fact, the biggest A-holes I have EVER played with (in 40 years of playing and 29 of those in California) have been in the last 3 years here in Michigan.

How I have always thought of it: Drummers are engines. Bass players are transmissions. Everybody else is sheet metal formed into attractive (one hopes) shapes. Everyone looks at the car, but nothing moves without us. The bass/drum relationship is supposed to be cooperative, not adversarial.

I’ll show myself to the door, thanks anyway.:D
I was with you up until "everybody else is sheet...."
