Never owned a signature bass, never will...

I've owned several signature instruments:
Fender (named after Leo Fender, apparently a brilliant bass player who always wanted to build furniture).
Les Paul (Tape Recorder repairman who dabbled on bass guitar... may have even held a 6 string guitar once or twice).
Kramer (Eddie van Halen's middle name..)
