i tried to make guitar work, i really did. to see which one i prefered, i played some lead riffs on bass, then i went to the guitar and played some lead riffs, i kept trying this for months, and guitar just felt lifeless and dull. i played some prog on guitar, then some on bass, and bass felt more rewarding for some reason. i didnt feel connected to the guitar as much as i did bass, it felt punchier and boomier

Well, I was (and still am) a keyboard player before I started playing bass. For me the huge difference is that bass is so much more expressive than keyboards. There is nothing that can compare to the actual feeling of the string. There's always some sort of "mechanical" feeling with keyboards - even with the piano, all those levers that transform key movements into hammer hits somehow detach you from the "soul" of the instrument.

In my personal case I'm a control freak and picked it up so I could join a band and make the music I want to make. Bassist's are always the smartest and have the most control over the overall sound of a band.

We're all 50 and above...I'm 56. If I really want to go the distance with an admirer...my age bracket, of course...I just use my smartphone to show her my 401K / pension balance.

At night I play bass with guitar players and drummers.

I don´t know but everytime I take a bass in my hands and play it I stop thinking and simply enjoy every note. I also play piano and keyboards but it doesn´t happen.

1. No need for picks (unless you use picks)
2. better finger muscles.
3. less strings to worry about( 4 strings)
4. Tabs are easier.
5. you recieve more credit because some people think bass us harder.
