That's why I don't buy basses on eBay. That being said. Reading all of y'alls responses (some seem pissed, geez calm down) you're probably right. Im a work right now, not totally focused on much of anything.

Recieved bad bass on ebay, what should I do?

I have a rule not to buy basses from Florida due to the a few I have purchased used from there. The electronics just seem to go to crap from the humidity - of course I've never lived there... I'm just thinking that is the case. (Floridians, feel free to prove me wrong).

The pics in the listing don't even show the tiny nicks he was referring to. If you say that chunks of wood were gouged out of it then it either happened during shipping or he sent you a different bass than what was shown. You have every right to get a refund and to leave negative feedback if the seller gives you a hard time but he looks to have 100% so I don't think he's in a hurry to ruin his perfect reputation. It happens to everyone at least once when they start selling a bunch of stuff either on ebay, craigslist, or even here. I'm sure something can be done.
Edit: Just saw the pics you posted and it had to have happened during shipping. He did say no case so I'm sure that had to have something to do with it.

Are the chunks of paint in the package somewhere? Looks recent to me, maybe shipping damage. The electronics not working right could also be shipping damage. On the other hand, the pic from the auction that would show it looks like maybe it's been shopped. Maybe.
In any case, contact the seller. He/She is a 'Power Seller' and probably doesn't want any trouble.

The box was fine and it was wrapped in bubble wrap pretty well. yes the chunks of paint are in the box.
The serial numbers match. he stated this was an 07 bass. Is this the right serial code for 07? MZ0061005
The pics in the ebay auction look like what the seller described. The paint chips in the box indicate the bass was most likely damaged during shipping. The paint damage looks like spalling and it can happen when you expose a painted wooden instrument to extreme temperature and humidity changes (the wood wants to expand and contract differently than the paint). I can't speak for the electronic issue but the body damage looks like a shipping issue, not a bait and switch by the seller. You may have some luck with the shipping company if you insured it, but if there was no damage to the box they might refuse to pay out. In any case I don't think the body damage is the sellers fault unless he did a really lousy job packing it (loose fit, no soft or hard case, stretch wrapped the body, etc.).

Well there is your answer. Item was damaged during shipping. Get with the seller send him the pics of the bass and box. Sorry and best luck to ya.

So I won an auction on a Fender jazz deluxe MIM . In the listing the seller stated that " the bass is cosmedically clean and has a couple of tiny marks, no evidence of playing or wear" and "electronics operate properly". Well when i opened it up today there were two huge chunks of paint chipped off exposing the wood and also either the bridge pickup is bad or the electronics are shot because im getting no tone when i dial the knob.
I am debating on keeping it and fixing it if the dealer gives me a partial refund. If not i am gonna return it ASAP. So what would it cost to have these things fixed? How much of a refund should I expect if he offers? Or should i just send it back? Thanks
