Recieved bad bass on ebay, what should I do?

So the seller contacted me and stated that he does listings for some of his musician friends. He told me to make him an offer for a refund or mail it backfor a full refund.
I really dont mind the paint issue as it looks like the bass has quirky character now. This is a gigging bass too. But how much should i ask for? Youve seen the pics. It probobly needs new wireing/pup and its an 00/01 model instead of an 07. not to worried about the blemish( i gotz stickers) I paid total $480. How much would you pay for this bass?

Contact the seller. Get reimbursed for the damaged body, pickup, and electronics, or return it. I would send it back based on the damage alone.
I'd send it back. 480.00 for a mexiFender seems like a bunch of money right now to not know when or how (for sure) this damage occurred. places like Daddy's online and musicgoround.com have all kinds of MexiFenders around the 300.00 dollar mark and you can talk to them about anything before you buy.
I think it's obvious the damage occurred during shipping. The photos from the auction are pretty good and there is definitely no damage in the area where you found the damage. The fact the chips of paint were in the shipping box is the icing on the cake. 
You said the box was packaged properly so it's hard to find fault with the seller. Find out if it was insured and try to collect from the shipper.
The seller is offering you the choice of a full refund with return or a discount. He has 100% positive with 1,268 transactions so he naturally wants to keep you happy. I'd ask myself if I could live with the damage and if I could, then make an offer for partial refund to the seller. If he rejects the offer or you just decide you can't live with the paint chips, then I guess you'll be shipping it back for a full refund and you aren't out anything except a bit of your time.
So far it seems the seller is doing the right thing so don't give the guy negative feedback (unless this takes a turn for the worse ).

I'm sure everyone has their own idea of the value of how much that damage is worth, but that's just the number I would pick if the bass were in my hands. If I thought the seller were at fault, I would certainly have a different number in mind.

Outlaw Son, Not trying to flame you up or nothing like that but you paid more for it then it cost new in 2000-2001. send it back for a full refund, it's a little hassle but you can do it. THEN take the money to a music store and look at some used or new basses face to face, even hold them in your hands and plug and play. Stay away from evilbay..thats just people trying to sell their junk IMHO. Good Luck.....BASSCASE.

I challenge you to find a Deluxe Mex Fender for $300.00. You people need to learn how to read.
So I won an auction on a Fender jazz deluxe MIM . In the listing the seller stated that " the bass is cosmedically clean and has a couple of tiny marks, no evidence of playing or wear" and "electronics operate properly". Well when i opened it up today there were two huge chunks of paint chipped off exposing the wood and also either the bridge pickup is bad or the electronics are shot because im getting no tone when i dial the knob.
I am debating on keeping it and fixing it if the dealer gives me a partial refund. If not i am gonna return it ASAP. So what would it cost to have these things fixed? How much of a refund should I expect if he offers? Or should i just send it back? Thanks

And for those who are afraid of buying on eBay, you can stop worrying. They have made changes that pretty much guarantees you get your money back if the seller does not disclose something. 45 days to open a claim. The sellers are the ones who need to worry. eBay told everyone who didn't like the new rules to close their account.

Not enough. One of the advantages of buying used is that you should be able to flip it for close to what you paid for it. If you take $100 for the damage, you'd have $380 in that bass. In the shape it's in, you couldn't get anything close to that on the open market. $100 probably could buy a decent repair, though. Black is an easy-to-match color, too.
With all due respect, you should take your own advice. Look at the auction. The bass sold for $452 plus shipping, equalling roughly $480.

Going by a recent ebay thread on here it seems like ebay are on the buyers side so i dont think you will have too much trouble getting a re fund.
I wouldn't even bother trying to get a discount. Send it back.
Maybe not that exact model, but I did just buy a 95 Mexi Fender traditional (USA cut body and neck, mexican parts and assembly) for 200.00, and for another 150.00 worth of pickups and electronics, I now have a bass that I would gladly put up against the deluxe Mex Fender. Deals are out there right now.
