Recommend a gig bag or case?

Hey folks,

Let me start off by saying, my apologies to the mods if this is in the wrong forum. It didn't seem to fit in Effects, Strings, Misc, Pickups/Electronics, etc.

I just pulled the trigger on an MTD Artist 5, and now I'm looking for a gig bag. I'm going to Berklee this summer, so I'd prefer something heavy-duty, with lots of rooms for music, cables, etc, and also with back-pack straps.

I've heard of incase gigbags. They seem nice... any other suggestions? A quick Forum search didn't yield anything useful.

+1...The Incase is a bit heavy when loaded. The Undercover doesn't have the storage of the Sadowsky. The Sadowsky Portabag is the best I have ever seen, bar none...I have 2 of them now!!! I just wish he made a double bag! Hint! Hint! Hint! :D Highly recommended!

Isn't the Sadowsky Portabag an Incase with the Sadowsky name on it?

I haven't seen one in person yet but I have several Incase Slimbags and I think they're the perfect cross between a hardcase and softcase.

If you're looking for a regular gig bag then the Incase is probably too heavy but they offer much greater protection while also being much easier to haul than a hardcase.

No... they may be made by the same OEM (the handle is extremely similar), but they're actually pretty significantly different in a lot of ways, so it's not the same thing.

+1, and also the Portabag as well.

I won't use anything else except RARELY, I'll use a Pro-Tec deluxe case if I'm going to have my hands on it pretty much the whole time.

I have and use an Incase Slimbag exclusively for my MTD 635. The zero-g case that comes with the MTD sits at home in the closet. The Incase Slimbag is the best case I've ever purchased. If you decide to get one, you won't be disappointed.

Undercover Double bag, plenty of storage, room for an extra Bass if you get a backup or Fretless etc etc.
I have been dragging this one around 10 years and I have not had one problem with it, they are built very well.

Do you know if the Incase slimbag or Dub bag will fit a Roscoe SKB3006? I was just about to post a similar question when I found this thread :)

Yes, they will. My 3005 had plenty of space, and that extra machine and neck width would not be nearly enough to change that.

You just happen to own my old roscoe SKB3006, and I can tell you for a fact that your bass will fit the Incase Slimbag. When I owned your roscoe, I used my slimbag exclusively with it.

I have the INcase double bag and love it. I have had for over 2 years - 85-100 shows per year, all car travel. It is a bit heavy when loaded but the backpack straps and waist belt make for very easy carries, although it is a minor pain in the neck to zip backup. Also it rides very high so watch out going through doorways. But when you are carrying your pride and joys dont scrimp.

Just a side note, in case you happen across a good deal on one, the old Tour bag might NOT fit. If you're shopping specifically Slim (as I assume) this is moot... just an FYI in case. The Tour bag is a DIFFERENT size spec. It's smaller.

Reunion Blues
25 years on the road and still perfect. Actually I will have to have one of the shoulder straps replaced pretty soon but it's very well made.

Also Levy Leather bags - I haven't had it for but a few years. Still looks new and I believe it should be around as long as the Reunion blues.

Regardless of the brand. look for great padding and great hardware. If you have those components, a gig bag should last a long time.

Leather looks great, lasts for many years, Cordura (nylon) will be around when your childrens, children are dead.
