Recommend a gig bag or case?

+1 I tried to find info as well. I was able to find a LITTLE bit of info on some Access Stage 1 and Stage 3 gigbags, but not Stage 5 or Level 5, and I'm not even sure if it's the right company.

I use an Access Stage 3 double bass bag for my Pedulla's and it's awesome. It's so rigid that it will stand up without anything in it. I only paid about $100 for it. I fit my Rapture, Pentabuzz, 21' Monster Cable, Tuner, sheet music and 2 Fender folding guitar stands in it. I love this bag!

Those Access bags look great... Is $100 a street price for that? I can't find any dealers with a Google search and there's nothing on their website (they have a phone number, but it's after their office hours).

Those just might be the ticket. I definitely want shoulder straps and lots of storage space. Thanks for the link.

The new Mooradian Bag might be just what you're looking
for. I'm not sure its even up on their site yet. Costs about
$120. It has three separate, well sized pockets. extra grab
handles. Removable hefty hook, and backpack straps.
Mooradian has been making top end bags for many years.
This could be their best electric bass bag yet. I should
get mine tomorrow.

P.S. Nevermind, Sadowsky has them on their website for $145 ($155 for the two-bass bag). They look nice! I'd really like a Sadowsky Portabass bag, too... It's only a $40 difference. I know a lot of guys on here said that the Sadowsky bag blows away everything else. I might actually end up getting the Mooradian two-bass bag, actually. I *never* gig without a backup - I actually bring a spare power amp & cab to most shows, too. My Line6 Variaxes came with very nice bags, so that's what I've been using, but a double bag is a good idea.

No, the bag on the Sadowsky web site is not the new
bag. Same shape and straps, but better storage pockets.
I guess its really new. Perhaps if you contact Mooradian,
they can email you pictures of the new bag. I should get
mine today. (I hope) I'll take pictures if I get it.
You can get it for less at Upton Bass, or probably any
store that carries Mooradian.

I used Undercover bags for ages. I bought an InCase Slim when they first came out, but I thought it was too much case and not enough gigbag. At 10 lbs. it was very heavy too.

Roger nailed it with the PortaBag. It's similar to the Slim Bag, but it's about three pounds lighter and actually has more protection than the Incase. It doesn't have the big bulky backpack thingy, which for me was totally useless as I rarely go on hikes with my bass. Okay, I never go on hikes, bass or no bass.

The only "problem" with the PortaBag is the Sadowsky logo. A problem with a simple solution, of course. ;)

The access stage 5 bag looks pretty functional. How
much are they? You could fit your family in that bag.

The difference in some of these bags for me is the long
term quality of things like zippers and such. I have a few
Carvin gig bags that are very functional and good protection
for a VERY resonable price. ($35.) The problem is they just
don't hold up too well. This is the problem with many "off
shore" import bags. Labor is cheap, but so are the parts.
The American made bags may not always be as functional,
or offer the bells and whistles, but they work for many
years. Thats one of the reasons I'm going with the Mooradian
bag. I have friends still using their fifteen year old
Mooradian double bass bags with no problems at all.

This is the first I've heard that the Portabag offers more protection than the Incase. Considering the Incase outer pocket is padded like the case and the Portabag is not, how can the Portabag offer more protection ? Is the case itself constructed differently ?

Well, it may be a perception thing...but as I recall the extra padding on the InCase top cover only served to make the bag more heavy and cumbersome, and when you opened the bag the top was actually heavier than the bottom (especially if you have any stuff in the outside pocket) and made it virtually impossible to open the bag and extract your bass without lying it flat on the ground...like a traditional case.

The PortaBag has a really nice extra-thick, removable and adjustable pad on the bottom of the bag, which definitely adds better protection where it's needed most. The neck support padding is more substantial as well (covers the entire width of the bag), and keeps the bass more secure inside the bag.

If you happen to be looking for something a bit cheaper (read: a LOT cheaper), the RoadRunner Premium bag I got from Musician's Friend does the trick quite nicely. Lots of storage in the form of a clip-on case, and although it's not quite as sturdy as a case, it's still got good padding, with thicker removable cushions for the neck and bottom. They're fairly cheap, but I trust them to protect both my bass and my Les Paul.

I'll put in one more vote for the Sadowsky Portabag - definitely the best bag I've ever owned. I also have a nice Reunion Blues leather bag, one of the older ones from when they were still made in the states. The Portabag offers alot more protection while actually being lighter. This is one advantage I've noticed that it has over some of the other hybrid case/bags...it isn't cumbersome at all over the shoulder and is actually easier to carry than a traditional gig bag.
