Recommend me a good strap.

I find the comfort straps allow the bass to bounce too much - it's like a car with no shocks - boing boing boing...

For an equal level of comfort without that issue, try the Neotech bass strap. Ergonomically designed JUST for bass, it gives enough over the shoulder to feel comfortable without the bounciness of the comfort strap. Feels more secure to me. They're also smaller and about $20.00-$30.00 cheaper.

I've used them since the mid 80's when they first came out and have never had shoulder problems, and I've owned some very heavy 6 string basses (Pedulla hexabuzz - 11-12 lbs - Kinal monstrosity - about 17-18 lbs - just ridiculous).

Make sure you get a BASS one - they are all different, and yes it makes a big difference.

Cheers,

I play fairly high and use 4" leather straps from http://www.italiastraps.com/

If you measure how short you need it to be, I'm certain they can hook you up with what you need.

+ another 1 for the italia. I moved from the Planet Waves to Italia a little while ago and it is terrific. The strap is heavy but you do not really notice after you're wearing the bass.

i hear ya, im 16 and i wear my ibanez as high as i can cuz i have short fingers. i have a strap i got for 2 bucks at a resale shop and it wrks great. id say just go with a thick one (mine is 3 inches wide) and make sure it has nice thick leather ends on it so the bass doesnt tear through/strech out the holes :)

i have 2 neotech straps (one for my dunlop straplocks and the other for schaller) they are the most comfy straps i have used.

i barely feel that i have the basses on me most of the time, and like bassflute said, the bounce takes the impact from your shoulder by spreading the gravitational force into kinetic force by stretching the strap just a little, thus saving your shoulder somewhat.

Actually, I think the Neotech straps bounce more than the Comfort Strapps. The bounciness depends on your bass though.

Look at MOODY , awesome straps .........
Might be out of his price range, but I agree...I use Moody exclusively. I used to use Planet Waves, then Comfort Straps, but found Moody's is, by far, the best strap I've discovered! I use the 4" wide versions with leather backing, and the leather is INCREDIBLY soft!

Talkbass has its own version of the Moody's strap available through the online store with a bass clef, and it's less expensive than straps directly through the Moody's website!

I really really like the Neotech straps but have found that I am alergic to neoprene.

I'd like to try an Italia strap but I need to find someone that would like to go in together since they are having a special offer of "2 for the price of one".

Anyone in the Portland, Oregon area interested in getting an Italia strap?

I like the Comfort Straps, but seems like I'm in between the Long and XL. I've played fairly high for years and have been gradually lowering the position. The Long got too short, so I bought a XL but it doesn't fit me right.

The adjustment lengths they give are for the holes in the leather. Doesn't make a lot of sense. So the plastic adjuster is sitting right next to my AC joint I busted a couple times, so its not gonna work. But even if I use the second hole, the adjuster sits too close - all the padding is on my back and not doing any good. So I guess for me, I gotta try something else.

But they are very comfortable if they fit your shoulder right.

Onto the Neotech Mega or the Sadowsky Medium for me.

you guys are going to jump me about the price, but trust me. the comfort is amazing.

Comfort Strapp FTW. I've broken my collar bone twice on the left side (where the strap sits) and it healed crooked. The Comfort Strapp is the only thing that lets me play a 3-hour gig comfortably. Wide leather straps don't do anything for me.

I hear ya. Busted up that "AC" joint twice. First time was a break but last time was just banged up pretty bad - last February. The Comfort Strap is very nice, just ain't sitting right for the way I hang mine. I have a wide leather one that is pretty cool, but I agree the neoprene is way more comfortable.
