Recommend me a good strap.

If anybody in the Portland, OR area would like to go in on getting an Italia strap, please shoot me a PM. They are still offering the "buy one - get one" deal. I would really like to try one of these out.

I recently bought one of the suede Eyeland straps that Miko is selling . It has worked out much better than my standard Levy 3.5" M4GF that I have used for years. Link Removed Miko is just a super nice guy that I've dealt with in the past and he is a TB'er. I like the suede one since the inner side is a suede and it really holds the bass in place. Plus it is really quick to adjust which is not the case on a lot of other straps.

i need a new strap too.. the Italia Strap is tempting, especially with the 2 for 1 deal.. (for which i'm short of cash)

but the TB Moody strap is what i think i want.. only thing is, the long version isn't offered on the TB strap...

i have a Jim Murnak (Fist holsters) and it's great, but it's 3" wide and i feel the weight of my basses with it on.. i need a much wider and padded strap at my rapidly advancing age..

++++1 on Moody.
I read somewhere that Italia is a company that was started by Michael, Moody's founder Alison's ex. When the couple parted ways, Michael started the Italia brand. Don't know how true ths story is but the Italia is basically the same strap at a less expensive price. I read somewhere there was a bit of contoversy over the design of Itlia straps. The stitching is a little different.

Hello

I can appreciate the general "strap" problem. I have 15 basses and I don't need an adjustable strap, but a fixed length one. I also need a strap wide enough to take the stress off the shoulder as much as possible - but still stay put and look great the whole time.

I think Gibson is on to something with their Fatboy "memory foam" stuffed ones, but they didn't carry it all the way and offer one in a fixed length. See here:

I appreciate the problems, as a retailer you would have to stock dozens of lengths to satisfy us, the discerning perfectionist players.

I have had custom leather shops make a dozen straps for me over the years, but not any as perfect as these, and he makes adjustable straps as well as fixed lengths at a reasonable price. He will custom make the strap to any length you desire and has upteen choices as to colors, styles, etc.

My Comfort Strapp is nice. Very comfortable but I do need to lengthen the back and shorten the front for my taste to put the padded part over my shoulder better. YEMV. It has just enough but not too much spring in it. It is by far the most comfy without being gaudy.

I have 3 Comfort Strapps. They are all I use-very comfortable on long gigs.

I have neck issues so I want to distribute the weight on my shoulder.
If you go to American Musical Supply they have a 3.5" wide Perris black leather strap of which I have several. If it won't go high enough for you, put it all the way up and put a new hole where you want it and cut off what you don't need then color the cut off part with a Sharpie. They are 19.95 and you can catch them on sale sometimes for $10/ea.
I have Comfort straps and they are great for a heavy bass but I'm not that fond of the stretchy shock absorber feel.

Bob at Brookwood Leather is awesome!!!
He has a video series on TY that shows the process for making straps.
Thats where I learned to make them.
