recommend me some fusion cd's

Now to the more obscure but still good

David Sancious solo LPs, great guitarist- who would have thought ?

Alphonse Mouzon solo stuff

Steve Kahn- amazing music, if you like Jean Luc Ponty a good choice with Kahn

Happy The Man- Self Titled

Ozric Tentacles-

Zappa- Roxy & Elswhere, WackaJawaka, Hot Rats, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Uncle Meat.

Black Utopia- Derek Sherinian

Eddie Jobson Solo LP - if you can find it.

For more Caron, don't forget Uzeb, and all those early Steve Khan albums with Will Lee on them are becoming available again, E-music has the downloads at a great price.

You definitely cannot miss out Dave Weckl ,any of his solo albums or playing for other musicians.
I would also recommend some of the Bill Bruford's albums from the 80's ( UK and his solo albums).
There is tons of breakthroughs and limits broken in those early recordings, musically, harmonically, stylistically,"out of mind" music.

No Sweat & Bent are great 'solo' discs by an Electric Bassist. All the Tribal Tech stuff with Willis is also top-notch.

How do you like Caron's Le Band & Slam The Clown albums?

Love all of Willis and Caron's stuff. Both are in my "buy the artist" category (anything they record is worth buying).

I'm also a fan of their respective work with Tribal Tech and Uzeb but I prefer what they have put out as "solo" artists.

A couple of other favorites which are true bass solo works (Willis and Caron both have bands) are..

- "Soliloquy" by Michael Manring
- "So Low" by Steve Bailey

Listening to fusion is a great reminder of how much is still out there to learn, no matter how good you might be. Must of us stink compared to these guys.

Forgot to add;

Jazz is Dead...any three of their albums (Blue Light Rain, Laughing Water, Great Sky River)

Steve Kimock - Eudomonic (prob one of my most fav albums of my collection, it's a masterpiece)

great suggestions here!

i just picked up "thonk" with manring/herb alexander and skolnick and you all were right, it is great!

gotta check out the weckl/will lee stuff.

and the felix stuff. i didnt know he had anything out.

Has anyone heard any information on the New Universe Music Festival for 2012. I know they skipped last year and are supposed to have it again this Fall I believe but I can't seen to located anything on it.

Nope, not yet. But I did just get the 2010 Festival DVD/CD set. I only wish they'd put MORE of it on there! So much great stuff, but just not enough of it!

We'll see what 2012 brings.
