Double Bass Red Eye Preamp

^^^^This. I thought it was Neutrik, but then, when I was looking at the little logo, it looked more like a Z than an N. Shout out to. @Martin Spure for solving that puzzle so quickly!

Completely Redeye unrelated, but what is this tip that doesn't play nice with the full circle?
I have only one cable that works with my new (december 2021) Lifeline. All my D'Adarrio cables won't get a sound out.

Go to Etsy and look up Chicago Cable Co. THat dude (I forget his name) makes grerat cables (get the thin ones) with whatever ends you want...custom is best gets you just the length you want made to order....

Man, I wish I knew. Seems like a lot of the newer cables have a new "improved" tip that doesn't work with the Full Circle. probably the sam "improvement". I'll likely order some custom cables with the exact same ends I already have just so I can be sure they'll work.

In the studio today, but at least on my phone I can’t seem to find new cables with that kind of Neutrik ends. Does anyone else in the brain trust have any leads?
I have no idea for configured cables (and specially not in the USA, I solder all my cables myself), but if you can find someone who solders cables, you might get even better ones that way.

The connectors are from the Neutrik MP-series (Neutrik calls the series PX, but the connector type name starts with NP, then 2X for mono/unbalanced and 3X for stereo/balanced).
Still available these times.

Did a bit of research on EBay (look for NP2X). There are cables with NP2X-connectors from Mogami (USA), Van Damme, Klotz, Leem and Soniq (UK). Maybe you can find one of them elsewhere too.

Back On Topic.
I've been using the Red Eye for the past few months and I'm very happy with it.
I use it thusly: Juzek w/Spiro Mittels/B-Band D-1 Pickup/Red Eye/WalterWoods Electracoustic/DIY 12" Eminence speaker cabinet.
I've used it in drummer-less, and drumm-ed Trios and Quartets - NO PA or FOH ever. I'm fortunate to play with very sensitive/tasteful/thoughtful Drummers. Thank DOG.
It does a nice job of slightly warming up the pickup, though the B-Band D-1 is not a Piezo, but is an Electret film.(Don't ask me for a technical explanation! It is not as "squawky" as a Piezo, IME.)
My Juzek is NOT an Orchestral Decibel Cannon, but it is very even across all 4 strings, (and registers), which is very helpful when amplifying, IME. Spiros sound warm and FULL, even with the bow (unamplified.) (I don't play much Arco/Amplified.)
The Red Eye sounds very good with the WW almost FLAT - I take a small amount of Treble off on the WW, and keep the Bass nearly flat...I prefer a warmer/darker amplified sound, and want to avoid the thinness of some pickups...(you know who you are.)
I have used it at only moderate volumes, and have no idea how it would perform at Stupid Loud Levels.
I don't use the Boost function at all.
It's nice knowing there is a Direct line out, as the WW does not...(I've usually used a Countryman DI box, when necessary.)
I no longer feel the need for the FDeck Pre in the signal chain, but that might change if I ever needed to get Stupid Loud. FYI.
So, it is in the permanent Signal Chain, for now. Great Product - UnderPromise/OverDeliver.
Thanks.

I have a Redeye Twin that does not have the little mic/pickup switch that activates the electret mic phantom. I have been using the Schertler Stat B lately and I would just love to know if it could be fired up by this unit..does anyone know if this would work? I know I can send mine to Daren and he will mod it to have the switch and power .

The eternal question it seems.

Hey thinking about the red-eye twin for doubling with upright and electric bass, in front of a 2-channel PJB Suitcase Compact.

Electric signal path: compressor pedal > sansamp vtbass di > suitcase input 1
Upright signal path: hpf-pre series 3 > suitcase input 2

I was hoping to put the red-eye twin in front of all those devices for the two distinct paths (maybe i lose the hpf if the red-eye is as magic as y’all say) and continue to use both channels of the suitcase. But I’m not sure its output design can feed those two paths.

What does this thread universe recommend here? I couldn’t find anyone posting similar setup in the thread, sorry if I missed it if so.

Maybe some kinda Y cable that splits the output from the red-eye? Or XLR to 1/4 and use that output in parallel with the effects-output? Grr.

Thank you!

I would probably opt for 2 separate Red-eyes in this case, one for the db path and one for the eb path. It'll end up being more $, but it is the simplest. I love the RE on both electric and db, it might even allow you to kick your comp and hpf off of your board.
On the other hand, if you went twin, found the comp and hpf were superfluous, and ran twin to VT then to amp, only two foot stomps would be needed to swap signal paths, provided the VT would be enough eq for your eb signal chain.
Just some thoughts..

I use a twin that way - with a P bass and an Eminence EUB - but with a single channel amp. I use several different pedals for the P and none for the EUB , and just switch them on as needed. No longer seem to need a hpf but it’s there if needed. So far as I can tell, to split the signal coming out of the Twin, you’d either have to use the xlr out for one channel and the return for the other. Or some type of splitter cable. Contact Red Eye directly, he’s very responsive.

Piro,
Darren was more than willing to modify mine for the different EQ that you tested. I do know that the voltage supplied by the Stat B Preamp to the Stat B is
different than the more common 48v or 9volts. I remember you having to change one of the internal jumpers on your Grace Felix to 12 volts. Rick Jones advised me
that his Clarius heads would not supply the correct voltage to the Stat B. Whether that's changed or not I can't say. Just my take

did you like the new eq point? For me it made for a pretty wide ranging dial well centered. Yeah the -Stat B can be fired up by 12v but isnt quite but cant be fired by 9 or 48- I don't know too hard to keep track of, I just want to know if it works or not.
