Double Bass Red Eye Preamp

did you like the new eq point? For me it made for a pretty wide ranging dial well centered. Yeah the -Stat B can be fired up by 12v but isnt quite but cant be fired by 9 or 48- I don't know too hard to keep track of, I just want to know if it works or not.
My HeadwayEDM1 is 9volt and powers it fine.

This is working great right now.

The Bayou cables came and are perfect. They were also relatively inexpensive and the turnaround was quick and the process very seamless. I will be using them in the future to get custom XLR cables for my home studio. Nice company!

In the meantime, the Nano board was also delivered and I’m going to try to wire the thing up this weekend. Curious to see if the Noble will power it. Also, for RedEye users, does engaging the power jack on the FireEye bypass the battery, or would I have to remove it?

Sorry for being late to the party on the Red-Eye, but it’s not clear to me if using just this as a preamp will drive a powered MAS 18. I have one of the prototype powered 18s. Simplicity is really important to me and the Red-Eye seems to have. Would you use the DI or the effects out?

John,
It definitely will work using the effects out. Doing that really limits the tone shaping drastically IME. My suspicion is that you won't get as much signal using the Red-Eye DI into the
combo input on the MAS 1/8. Mike changed the powered 1/8's so many time that my take is that their all "prototype/special orders" I have the smaller v1, 25 lbs 500 watts and a v2 well over
30 lbs. 700 watts, I've seen a v3 recently for sale that the seller said was 15 lbs.

P.S I'm assuming that you want to know about using a Double Bass, with just the

Red Eye into the MAS 1/8.

P.P.S. I cannot function without a Volume, Bass, and Treble EQ control. Just my take.

Correct, I am asking just about amplifying an upright. Right now I don’t have any gigs that need both an electric and an upright bass.

And now, based on your response, I’m a little confused about how the Red Eye would work for upright and my MAS. Right now I’m using a KNA DB2 piezo in the bridge wing, through an EDB2 as a pre into the MAS. I’m always looking to simplify so the Red Eye caught my attention.

It will work, but you don't have any control over Volume other than to boost the level. The Treble Control is all you have in the way of tone shaping. It works beautifully for that but that's all you have. I've also played

using a the KNA DB1 (don't know what the DB 2 is) It's got a strong signal. So the KNA into the Red Eye into the MAS 1/8 will be fairly loud ( the later MAS 1/8's have a higher gain power amp)

Using the Red Eye into the EDB-2 into the MAS will improve the sound and output, but you now a preamp running into a preamp into a power amp, similar to an active electric bass like the Warwick's you own.

Thx - understood…and I meant the KNA DB1

Contact Red Eye directly, he’s very responsive.

So, thx, Daren was indeed responsive! Seems he’s thinking of making a new product (I asked permission if it was ok to post about it here). I’m hoping that would do the trick in my situation (e.g. 2 channel amp used for doubling, where the box would provide distinct output paths for each input).

So if that’s appealing to anyone else out there, sounds like there’s potential in the future.

I think in the meantime I’ll prob just get one of the existing ones and sell it when/if this new version releases. I’m confident one of you here will buy one used! :)

Great, putting the Red Eye into a full dual channel amp designed for DB would be optimal.

I played a trio gig in a small club last night. I used my Kolstine Busetto Travel Bass with a Realist Life Line, into a Traynor SB 106 for the first set and added the Red Eye on the second set. Once
I added the Red Eye everything just opened up the sound was clearer, the tone was more pleasant, it was easier to play and listen. I was able to add just the right amount of boost for solos. All in
all it adds the details that are missing from just the pickup and amp alone. Just my take of course

I've had pretty much the same experience. I was able to resurrect an old pu that had never been usable before and simplify the whole rig, which the older I get is more of a goal. The RedEye has worked exactly as advertised.
