Red Sparowes

Oh hey zeus- this could go on forever

Fot those creaming their pants over Red Sparowes-
the following bands range from mellow to heavy but all have something atmosphericly rocking about them.

Americas Young Souveniers, This Will Destroy You, Giant Squid, Rosetta, Grails, The Ocean, The Drift, Mouth of the Architect, Bitcrush, Sybrite, Russian Circles, Desiderii Marginis, Kayo Dot, Stars of The Lid, Godspeed You..., Monuments, A Silver Mt. Zion, Cloud Minder, Mogwai, Black Ox Orkestra, Battles, Explosions in the Sky, Jesu, Elizabeth Anka Vajagic, Balboa, etc., etc, etc.

This is JUST the tip of the iceberg. I could list at least 50 more (and I am not kidding)

Voices of Omens is one of very few new albums the last year or two to completely blow me away (probably only Mammatus - The Coast Explodes and Deathspell Omega - Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum have come close). It is like Acid Bath through the eyes of Isis. Wonderfully frightening stuff. Mr. Pickles if I ever finish that mix CD-R for you I'll include something from this album. :D

I still need to check out Red Sparrowes, as foolishly I have not.

Yeah, I'd never heard of Rwake 'till I saw them play with Ocean, Conifer, and Minsk. Fantastic show, all four bands totally blew me away.

My compiled list of really awesome Post-Rock(ish) bands:

-Russian Circles
-Red Sparowes
-Mono
-Explosions In The Sky
-Godspeed You! Black Emperor
-Isis
-God Is An Astronaut
-Pelican
-Mogwai
-Saxon Shore
-Every Gentle Air
-The Winston Jazz Routine
-(Local Shout Out) Foxhole (seriously, look them up)
-Glider
-Sigur Ros
-Sparklehorse
-Irepress
-Don Caballero (sometimes, a slight stretch there).

I love these esoteric little gems on TB. I went on a music splurge a while ago and picked up everything that I could by Isis, EITS, and Red Sparrowes. RS is my fave. so far, but I'm always searching for good music.

Can you guys turn me on to some new stuff in this genre. Is Russian Circles a good place to start? What else would you recommend?

Sorry I can't contribute to the gear questions.

Thanks.

Mono, Cult of Luna, Dub Trio, Sigur Ros

Youve got it nailed quite well already with those three, but those are a few other bands i listen to that are quite awesome

Heres the deal with Grails-
GO SEE THEM LIVE JUST for the drummer. He is one of the best drummers that I have ever seen and the best in post rock bands.

MY PART II (non repeats from part I)

Morgion, Caspian, Rachels, Isis, From Monument to Masses, Don Caballero, Karate, Battles, Tortoise, Cult of Luna, Pelican, Battle of Mice, American Analog Set, Dirty Three, Cul de Sac, Eluvium, Menomena, Sigur Ros, The Big Sleep, Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies, Flying Saucer Attack, Saxon Shore, Mono, Rodan, Maudlin of the Well (pre- Kayo Dot band), God is an Astronaut, Hrsta, Mum, On! Air! Library!, Because of Ghosts

Again, I could list 50 more...

maudlin of the Well were amazing, and Kayo Dot's first album finalized their perfection. I don't love what they've done since (I don't dislike it either, just a little disappointing by comparison), but they are an amazing live act.

Keelhaul, Old Man Gloom, Yakuza, Sólstafir, 65daysofstatic and Swans have not been mentioned yet.
