REDDI Tube DI Mega-thread-II

Not open for further replies.
Was recording a couple of tracks yesterday with and without it, and I must say I wasn't blown away by the difference in sound...

BUT, before every subscriber begins to throw rocks at me, I've to say as well that there IS a difference, to my ears (I consider myself to have good ones) it is in the definition of the low strings, and of course a little bit of tube warmth...

Normally I EQ from my bass' pre, and leave the amp EQ flat, and that was the way I A/B the sound with and without the REDDI. I'll have to go again and record it passive to see how it goes... Some might say that greatness is in the details (with which I agree), but maybe I was expecting to get thrown to the floor by just hearing it convert the mortal sound of my bass into something more angelical... :D (just kidding!!)

Anything you play through is going to sound like you playing ;)

Glad to know that!!:eyebrow:
I thought by the comments posted before that when you guys plugged into the REDDI there was giant HULK type of bassist coming out from the other end!!!

But seriously, I tried it with my Fender P/J (fretless), and the improvement of sound is great! More definition, and more body to it.
Seems to me that I was getting pretty much the sound I wanted from my active bass, 'though it doesn't hurt to run it thru this "little" box.:bassist:

So: Is it better to use the passive mode of any bass to make good use of the advantages of the REDDI??
Again, I'm not saying there was no difference at all, but it was more subtle than the passive P/J, which behaved like putting it through a pre.

That I don't know, but the difference between using a passive bass and an active bass is noticeable, as you have noticed. My main bass is a 95 P Lyte with EMG PJ's/BQC, and I notice a little compression going on as compared to my passive basses. It's still a pretty significant improvement IMHO, but it's more subtle than a passive bass. I can't go full passive with my EMG's so I can't tell you. So I'd say give it a shot in passive mode and see what happens then tell us.

As for the Boss pedals, I'm not a big fan of frequencies over 5k to begin with, so whatever high end they cut out I wouldn't miss in the first place.

This week I'll take the time to share a more thorough experience of it, through some comparison recordings.

Hope to bring the same kind of help that I've received around here...
Awesome! This has been a very helpful thread for me as well. A lot of killer REDDI users with great info, not to mention how helpful Peter Montessi's been.

Hi JCRob,

Can I make a small suggestion please?

Take your Active go into the REDDI.
Please take all the EQ settings off and start from there...I'm sure you did this already but what I what to know is how MUCH EQing did you have to do compared to what you were doing before the REDDI.

Maybe I'm hanging myself here but just interested.

Thanks,

Hi Peter, I'll surely take your suggestions for the testing.
For me is kind of a new experience being able to talk to the creators of gear themselves at first hand. It's awesome!!!
This process will be of a great deal for me, since I have a live recording coming down on September, and I just want to be "tonally" ready for it (which of course I'll share with you in the right moment...)

Thanks again

Hi JCRob,

No, thank YOU!

Can you tell us more about this Live Recording you have coming up?
I'm sure Jimmy will have something to offer along with Kirk and a number of great guys on this thread as well.

But my questions would be:

Is it a Live in the sense that everyone will be playing together in the studio at once or will it be recorded from a live show?

Thank you,
