REDDI Tube DI Mega-thread-II

Hi dDaddy,

Not at this time, to answer your post...sorry for the delay and I see you pretty much covered that question yourself ;)

There has been interest in a REDDI Pre-amp but as a Manufacturer you have to ask a ton of questions before you even can consider this.

1, How much would it cost to build?
2, How many people would purchase (and if I looked at all these threads there just seems to be about a small handful).
3, Can I do it for a price that people can afford?
4, What's affordable 1,500.00/2k?

So you see there is a lot to think about before I would consider doing one at this time.
I have 4 projects on the boards right now and I just hope I can make it thru THAT alone ;)

If people want or need a GREAT pre-amp then please look at this. I have had some mega interest in this for bass BUT it is not a REDDI.
I feel it is a GREAT Pre for just everything from Guitars to Keys and yes for bass as well.
With the 3 band EQ it just kills!

Yeah, I probably over-covered it ;) Well what can I tell ya, Peter? It's the only DI I ever preferred to a cab mic and that fascinates me to no end. It's like a living part of the rig whereas other DI's just seem inorganic and out of place with my rig and tonal goals.

It's funny, over in that Using the DI on the amp head thread going on right now where people are arguing what to send to FOH and why I just wanna scream "A REDDI WILL SOLVE ALL YOUR PROBLEMS!!!"

He explained that very well.. I too have miced cabs at home in my studio and the phase issue is more than i like to deal with at times. Im not an engineer.... But i have used the Sans amp with great results.. More so the VT bass pedal these days... I usually run the REDDI as clean into teh BAC500 Comp for gainup, and then the split into a VT bass into the countryman on another channel...

I have experimented with recording two channels at once with the REDDI, then using a plugin like Amplitube on the second channel.. but there are so many variables in amplitube that it kills the creative process for me.
I have an old POD XTpro rack that i have not used in years and years but i did pull it out on a song the other day since i made a great Marshall Major into a 415 cab at the point of almost exploding tone.... yeeehaw...

But i really like that tutorial... Im gonna mess with mine today, and grease pencil some settings..

The thing I liked about the demo was he isolated each track. I've heard lots of cats describe the technique, but I aways wonder what the tracks they're mixing together sounded like individually. Geddy Lee occasionally talks about recording three tracks simultaneously: direct, dirty, and speaker simulation. But I've never seen or heard anything that isolated each of those tracks from a Rush tune. I'd LOVE to see such a video...

The one thing that bugs me about blending clean and dirty is that too often they sound like two different distinct parts. You could hear it in that vid, too. There's always a zone where it sounds good, but go just a little too far one way or the other and you have either all dirt or two separate signals that don't sound related. Nowadays I just use pedals that sound good without blending.

BTW, no offense to Ronan, but I'd just as soon take the REDDI by itself ;)

I was listening to how Rick Huxley (RIP) used dirt on the bass of some Dave Clark Five numbers today and loved the tone.

No question that full on rich in harmonic dirt can sound great. I mostly like an interwoven sound that goes over or pulls back from the edge of distortion with playing dynamics like you can get with a tube amp. I think that it's more complex than a mix of clean and dirty.
