REDDI Tube DI Mega-thread-III

Reddi got double duty yesterday. Fair gig with my rig and the Reddi. I could hear the thunder from the mains and the sound man had positive comments.
rushed to 2nd gig with back line in place. Brought the reddi for the acoustic guitar that we used in three songs. OMG I've never heard that good of an acoustic sound on stage before. Impressive indeed. Sound man at 2nd gig said it made his day 'cause he's been wanting to hear that box in action. I said "wait 'till you hear the bass through it".

Yeah, acoustic guitar really shines through a REDDI, and dynamic mics come to life as well. I pretty much use it as a mic pre for everything these days. One of these days I'll be able to swing a Ventura, but until then, the REDDI does really well as a mic pre.

I am curious to know of your experiences using Reddi with basses other than P-bass pickup configuration. I am specifically wondering about:
1) How Reddi sounds with low B of a five-string electric bass?
2) How Reddi sounds with J-bass pickup configuration, bridge position?
3) How Reddi sounds with fretless?
4) How Reddi sounds with a Smith 5 or Roscoe 5?
5) How the Reddi treats lower and upper mid frequencies: flat, slight scoop, slight bump?
I am looking to try something different in an IEM/FOH scenario, with no bass cab onstage. Thank you!

Sidebar: I have been using an Avalon U5, as well as S-Max 9.2 as DI.

I hope you see the humor, but in all seriousness it's going to sound awesome no matter what you use. My in ear mix sounds so much better with the REDDI! My DJ5's low B is bowel-movement-inducing powerful, and with the bridge solo'd has growl through the REDDI that would make a lion tuck its tail and run. If Jaco were still alive, it's what he would use, and it looks like rocket music answered your question about a roscoe.

Here's a clip I recorded with a Roscoe 6-string. All the bass tracks were recorded direct through a REDDI:

"If You Never Come To Me" (Jobim/De Oliveira/Gilbert)

And here are the individual tracks with all EQ, FX and panning removed. Just a smidge of reverb left on it.

"If You Never Come To Me" (Bassline)
"If You Never Come To Me" (Melody)
"If You Never Come To Me" (Chords)

This is the bass I used:

Tried doing a recording for you of my 5-string neck-thru, but I'm having problems with my recording setup that I can't figure out. But overbybr gave you the same answers I would have. Doesn't matter what bass you use, how low you tune, electric or upright, etc....the REDDI always rules.

i only own two of the units shown..:eek::smug::) but we had three, so why not hookem all up with different signals on the clients dime.. HA.. It was that sort of session. real easy going and relaxed

The engineer bought one after i did a session with mine at their studio earlier this year... so we experimented...
Clean , Dirty, and real dirty....
we wound up using the clean into the BAC500 and UA176 only:(

Like I just said, some people over-think REDDI - even people who bought three! :D

Exactly! I can't personally confirm #3 or #4, but I would assume "Awesome" is correct.

Cross-post from REDDI Owners Club (sorry for the double-spam.)

My original band is recording a new EP next month, and I'd really like to get my hands on a REDDI to track the bass. I've tracked with them in the past many times, but I really don't have a need for one of my own. If there is a REDDI owner in the Philly area who would lend/rent me their DI for a weekend, PM me. I can leave cash or paypal deposit, or whatever makes you feel secure in letting it go. Sorry for the hijack, but I feel like this is a much more ethical path to take than buying one from GC or MF and returning it for no good reason. I envy all you REDDI owners.

EDIT - Found a used one at a "flippable" price. Hope it works when it gets here, and I can bring myself to let it go after the sessions.

I agree with you on that, bro. Never was down with the buy/return borrowing program. If I lived near Philly I'd help you out. I'm sure you'll make righteous tracks regardless, but hope you find one.
