REDDI Tube DI Mega-thread-III

I use the SKB iSeries. A little extra room to custom fit the mic as well.
You happen to know what model # that is?
It's the SKB 3I 1610. Local stores that carry SKB should have one to check out.

You can get that.. but you wont be happy till you try a REDDI... 
I have been lucky to own and play many Tube DIs. Evil Twin, UA, Demeter, Fern, plus non tubes DIs. Last was the REDDI. I sold all the rest and wound up getting a second REDDI . One for gigs and one for my small home studio.. Its been about 8 years now and i have never looked back ..
Yes, we;ve done gigs where an engineer wanted to try his FAVE box.. But ALWAYS wound up staying with the REDDI. .Then they bought one too..
Not only is the REDDI a great bass DI. But it works wonders on Digital Keyboards and drum machines too...

Thank you. I think yours looks cooler though. As long as the REDDI is well protected, that's all that matters.
Finally! After a year of owning the REDDI, I got it to leave the house. Had a 2 song recording session yesterday and it was awesome.
I just had 2 clean signals from a Rickenbacker bass:
Bass>REDDI
Bass>REDDI Thru>Aguilar DB359>Bergantino HT322>AKG D12E mic.
My bass tone was fantastic. The engineer said he wasn't expecting much of a difference from the DI over what they use, but his best quote was "It sounds like an amp". He thought it was excellent. Now I can't wait to finally use it live.

Funny thing I heard from one of the Engineers in a newer studio I just started working with who always like to keep their 'safe line' for bass which is usually a dry bass to a Avalon U5.
He was A/B/C -ing the my incoming tracks and I asked him... "Hey are we good now?" He is said "Yep we are all set and we don't need the U5 on you, I'm calling sweetwater tomorrow."
That sounds awesome...

I think the engineer I worked with will be insisting the studio buy a REDDI as well. It wasn't easy to get them to just use my DI and Mic, but once they heard it, they were immediately pleased.
Just got off a 2-week stint with our band's yearly cruise (which has snowballed into 4 cruises this year with even more planned for next year), and one of our guest acts was The Lovin' Spoonful. They did one show each week in the ship's theater. The first show, the sound crew hooked their bassist, Steve Boone, and his Ibanez BTB to the DI in back of the ship's GK 400RB because I neglected to tell our crew that he could use my REDDI. Steve goes for a low end rumble without much of anything else...he plays very lightly by the neck with his fingers on old rounds to get that sound. Didn't know if the REDDI would make that much of a difference with his sound but offered it up to him for the second show. He asked what the REDDI was, and I told him it was the world's greatest DI. He says, "Far be it from me to turn down the world's greatest DI."
It made a HUGE difference. Night and day. The rumble he likes was still there, but it was accompanied by a weightiness of tone that wasn't there in the first show, especially when he played up high. The high notes got a bit lost with the GK DI, but not with the REDDI. That Di never ceases to amaze me with the difference it makes.

I bet you were so excited to share this story that you raced home from the ship and posted to TB before kissing your wife!
Just spoke with musiciansfriend.com and asked about the lowest price they could sell the REDDI for. Salesperson said that A-Designs doesn't allow discounting. Anyone know of anywhere one can buy the DI for less than $745? Would like to order one ASAP. Thanks!

Any thoughts on the Khan VTDI? I know it's inherently different than the Reddi, just haven't seen much written about it recently on this forum and I really would like to know more about it before making a decision about which DI to go with.

That's about the best you can do. I just did a couple searches and that's the price everywhere. I'll tell you though...once you hear it in the PA or the studio, you forget about what it cost.
