REDDI Tube DI Mega-thread-III

Oh I know..... It almost plays itself.. Its like the REDDI and this bass were made for each other in a strange way..

Sadly though, I may be adding another dog's name to the back of the bass. My Allie is not doing well.. I pray not soon. But I just don't know.

:( Hopefully not soon. It always amazes me how attached we become to them.

I don't think Peter ever released the Black REDDI. I've not seen it available. Peter is very particular and doesn't like to release stuff just to release it. But the differences are, as he puts it, the red REDDI is more like his take on the B-15 experience with a near flat response while the black one has a slight mid scoop that he calls his take on the SVT sound. The black one also has a lot more gain available and it can drive a power amp, whereas the red one is very specific about what power amps it works with and won't work with all of them. But that's OK...I didn't buy it to work with a power amp :D

I'd like to get hands on a black one if that's what he was going for. Especially if it had two wet xlr's out. Is it the same size as the REDDI?

Just spent a few days in the studio tracking a new album for an artist out in western Canada. I was doubling on this gig and used the REDDI with both basses. Freaking fanatstic! Most of the electric stuff we went directly from the REDDI into an 1176 comp. Today on one of the denser mixes we went REDDI into a Hairball Lola preamp. Wicked sounding unit. Really warm and harmonically rich sounding. Really happy with the REDDI. Its everything I want, and nothing I don't ;)

Question For REDDI owners.

I have a version 1 REDDI without the 1/4" output jack. Is it difficult to mod this unit to add the extra jack?

Also, I am getting some hum that I didn't have before. Talked to Peter and he recommended to send it in. Its a $100 starting bench fee and shipping all the way to California. Is there something I could try to alleviate the hum?

Maybe the tube went bad?

$100 amp and a $700 D.I. - works beautifully!

Is it making a HUM while an instrument is Plugged into the REDDI ? That could be something different.

YOu said you replaced the tube .. OK

Yours is a old one. Its earlier than my original , that i use almost 6 days a week.. i still have the original tube too. wowowo!!
The Toroidal transformer may have turned a bit, which would cause the unit to Hum...
If you replaced the tube , you have taken the top off.. See if your transformer is loose.. .
If it is, try turning it so you get MINIMAL HUM then lock it down.. .

Absolutely. The Ampeg BA108 despite being super cheap is actually a killer sounding little combo so it works out nicely. I have to say I have played probably 3 gigs without the REDDI since I re aquired one, and probably around 60 with it. It makes such a big difference in the FOH that I just can't leave it at home any more. Freaking love it ha!

The transformer didnt appear loose but I turned the screw a turn or two none the less... NO MORE HUM.

THANK YOU! I dont know if that did the trick or it was something else but it is so great to have this back! I tested with my Bass into a zoom pedal, then the REDDI into a Focusrite interface/headphones. Totally quiet!

Ordered a Lehle P-Split that I hope is going to solve the issue of no output jack to an amp. Coming today ( Thanks Amazon) Will lug my amp in here and see how it goes. *fingers crossed*

Thanks again!
