REDDI Tube DI Mega-thread-III

I will say this after recording a bass track for a song. It lives up to the hype in terms of sitting well into the mix. Using my Duet's DI, the tone can be thin. So I end up adding some plugins to get a good tone, but then it doesn't sit well and I can't seem to get it to a decent volume without it becoming boomy and dominating the mix. With the Reddi track, I used no plugs and it works extremely well with the other instruments.

I know people can get hyped whenever they get a new piece of equipment, but objectively this thing does kick some ass in terms of its recording capabilities.
That's why folks love it.

Was plugged into one of these yesterday.

Jazz bass -> REDDI -> Soundcraft board preamp -> analogue compressor (not sure what kind). No EQ (yet). Just listening to the raw sound and it sounded great. Tracked one song with flats and two with picked rounds and both just seemed to sit in the right spot. I felt there was a certain weight to the sound that I haven't gotten before, and no frequency felt thin or overhyped.

Serious case of gas and no money...

Picked up another REDDI and used it for the first time last night. Night and day difference between the house J48 I've been using at my production shows. You can literally feel the notes as you move up the fingerboard(upright or electric, as I double on most gigs). I had a Noble last year, and it is an absolutely killer piece of gear, but there is still something magic you get with the REDDI that I haven't heard with any other piece of gear. It adds a weight and harmonic complexity which is subtle on its own but just shines in a mix.

I was in LA / Anaheim HOB for a live show last month . The engineer had a Noble.. Nice gear. Well thought out.. .. But I brought my REDDI too... Guess which one he liked for the show..? Yup my REDDI ,, It happens all the time to me

That bass kills me every time I see it Kirk! You can tell just by looking at it that it oozes tone! ;) Isn't it great finding an instrument like that?! Putting it through the REDDI can't hurt...

Oh I know..... It almost plays itself.. Its like the REDDI and this bass were made for each other in a strange way..

Sadly though, I may be adding another dog's name to the back of the bass. My Allie is not doing well.. I pray not soon. But I just don't know.

I love the Noble. Great sounding pre. But it does have its own voice and I find the REDDI to be more neutral. It also has this harmonic midrange complexity which I haven't found with anything else. Those transformers are MAGIC!
That's the way I hear them, too. Haven't heard a demo of the Noble where it didn't inject a pretty tremendous mid scoop, whereas the REDDI compares very favorably with my DI's that are known to have flat response.
