Kirk, when I get more time, I need to discuss a signal chain upgrade with you, bro. Gotta clear a clean path to the REDDI for my upright on doubling gigs now.
Suggestion:
Little Lehle Looper, your pedals (VT+???) in the loop, output to the REDDI.
Sou you activate the loop only when you play electric....
Yo, so I just got back a little bit ago from the REDDI's maiden voyage. It was at a big restaurant we play all the time, and I'm well-used to the sound in there and the soundman is well-used to us. Usually when I go in there I use one of my Ampegs and mic a cab only, no DI (Heil PR40 for those who give a rat's ass). Brought my B-15 tonight and made the REDDI work for its beans. First impressions are positive. Sounded big and gnarly but very smooth at the same time. Big fat high notes, even when running totally clean and adding in the back pickup. Gorgeous top end that doesn't sound all plinky. Went out in the crowd 3 or 4 times during the show and totally dug what I heard in a way I enjoy hearing my B-15. No bleed from the hi-hat and snare, either. Never really minded the bleed but it did sound more controlled on the snare and hi-hat out in the crowd tonight.
I don't give up that cab mic willingly, but I am quite digging what I'm hearing with the REDDI. Even in a big party environment, it makes a difference in how the bass gets put over in a mix. The big difference is in the high notes. I do a lot of 50's and 60's and 70's with a lot of high notes, and I hate when the bottom falls out with them. But I was dead clean and playing high notes and they were there.
Gotta tell you, I had the holy grail of bass amps onstage with me, and when I got into the crowd, I was digging what I heard out of the REDDI in a way that I dig that B-15. The only time I ever heard DI sound that good was when I was speaker DIing my B-15 and SVT briefly until soundmen complained that my EQ's that worked for my amp weren't working as well in the house. I'll never stop using amps, and I reserve the right to mic a cab sometimes
but I think I finally have a DI solution that everyone will be happy with, even me.

I will say this about REDDI
Plain & Simple...I lost any desire to miked to amp when recording and the REDDI the one mandatory unit that I use in the studio now every single time since I received one.

OK!!! I'm a reddi owner. I just ordered one from Sweetwater and a SKB 3i case. Man, if I don't like it, in my Ricky Ricardo voice, "you guys gotta lotta explaining to do." LOL!!
Hi. It's a SKB i-Series 3i-16-10-5 case. They about $90 or so. Well worth the cost to protect the REDDI.

I use one of the smaller ones for my vocal mikes and they are good cases.
basswave, that's a pretty impressive statement. I can't say I've lost all desire to mic a cab yet, but I've only got one gig with it in a loud busy restaurant, and I like to use overdrive. Didn't get to hear what it does with overdrive in the crowd last night. Sure is fat for clean sounds, though, so I think the mic fetish will wear off. Might leave it up because it looks cool.
diglo, I can't see how anyone couldn't love what they hear out of the REDDI, so i think you'll be fine. But if not, just remember that it was Kirk who whipped us all into a frenzy over it originally.

Been using the VTD but I don't want speaker sim forced on me anymore and I don't want anything to act negatively on the REDDI. But I think I'm going to have to get my head out of the clouds for a moment and settle for a step up from a Boss pedal and not be so anal about it. I think I'll just try to find some little Baxandall circuit and stick that on there instead of going with a $2000 EQ. I'm all for righteous tube tone but at some point you have to draw the line unless you're...well...you

Jimmy, NEVER did I think I would hear you say that would like a DI almost as much as the sound coming out of your amp. Hearing your description of the fat upper register notes, makes me want one today
Yeah Jerry, somehow or another Peter seems to have hit on the magic. Only one gig with it under my belt but a total positive reaction for sure. I've heard a high end preamp based on the B-15 with an output transformer and a bigger form factor sound really great direct, too, but never did I think a DI with one tube in it could hit that level of tone. I never heard it before in a DI. Heard a lot of goodness in tube DI's with OT's but never THAT. I'd never tell anyone to buy something they don't need, especially if they have mouths to feed, but my kids are self-sufficient now
