Very good suggestion but I don't think it's doable due to mechanical interference.

DI pre/post and ground lift, and mute.

Should be under or at 7lbs - it was about 6.5 lbs with the cover on but no DI transformer and unpopulated preamp board.

I that is the case, I can see some issues with the layout. First, if I have cables plugged in, my access to the switches is somewhat hampered. Second I can see the cables, especially a right angle plug possibly moving one of the switches. Also, I think having three switches right next to each other that look exactly alike could be an issue. (original B-17 bomber design issue with flaps and landing gear switches.)

How often are you going to be changing a DI configuration/setting during a gig? The 90° plug is a valid argument, except you don't HAVE to use one, at least not on the amplifier end. I can see the mute being partially obscured, but how often are you in a hurry to mute and un-mute your bass during a performance?

I'll take some pictures with cables plugged in so folks can get a better visual reference - the switches won't be that obscured, and they will of course be labeled. DI switches are generally set and forget. The switches protrude very little, so they are not easy to accidentally actuate. As for a right angle plug - just don't use one. I'm surprised more folks aren't concerned with the lack of protection for the controls on a lot of micros...

Lookin' good Jonathan. You've obviously given all those details a lot of thought. Have you identified a good soft or hard case for carrying yet?

Thanks Charlie! Haven't done a lot of searching but I think there are quite a few compact mixer bags that will fit the bill. The medium GigSkinz I have for the 1200 is really nice, so I'd probably go for the small version for this one.

The request was to place the mute switch above the input jack (but still nearby), rather than below where it's a little trickier to reach. I can see how that would make sense, but mute placement has never been an issue for me (and I also appreciate the difficulty of cramming all that wonderful tube circuitry into such a small box).

Cool. I almost bought the small one for my new amp build, but opted for a custom one from Studio Slips as a self indulgent birthday gift to myself.

Agreed on all counts. I brought up the mute switch/cable locations on my Studio 1200 assuming that given how the amp is laid out that it wouldn't be an option to reverse it. @JGR confirmed my suspicions. Like you, the placement isn't ever an issue.

I've been supremely pleased with my medium gigskinz bag .. AND the 1.6 HP Studio 1200 inside ..

The medium is perfect for the 1200. I just wish more Studio 1200s could "roll off the line". I read threads every day for which the 1200 is the obvious answer.

Like, "I'm an SVT man but have back problems now. Can anyone suggest a lightweight amp that can fill that bill for me?" Studio 1200.

"What's the best sounding amp I can carry in one hand?" Studio 1200.

The 3-tube preamp section, the transformer coupling, the 1200 watt ice module and inductive EQ .. pre- and post-EQ Jensen DI and fabulous protection on all sides .. and more .. it just doesn't get any better than this.
