I need to update you. I ran into the same thing with a cab that wasn't so well behaved. I've fixed it, but have been busy resolving other issues that created. I've basically added Sorbothane. Early version on the web site. Also scaled for large tube heads and for cabs. Stay tuned.

Preamp design and integration certainly plays a part, but none of the micros used this particular power section. It's a bit larger and a lot more expensive. I think the latest crop of micros using the new 700 module will eliminate a lot of the issues folks had with the previous generations. Lots of great choices popping up.

Thanks JR! I think you are being too modest. Also, my question was somewhat rhetorical, in that I have been good with the micros for some time. However, when I see Tom posting that your 1200 creates a vibe similar to the V8 and heads like that; to me, that stands as an important milestone; and speaks well to your improved output topology and to your preamp section. I do understand that you chose to use the more expensive (and appropriate for bass) output section.

Nope, not yet. Still prototyping. I really like the chassis I was using but I want just a skosh more room so I'm going to a smaller version of the chassis that the Studio 1200 uses - 12W x 3H x 8D. Pretty compact! Finished up a new circuit layout for it last week so I need to get cracking. I have all the parts staring at me.

But I just got tracking info for the last parts for my roasted maple reverse tele PJ five string tele bass O' destruction - so I may me building that this weekend.

Per an early discussion I've added not one, but TWO Auralex Baby Gramma pads. One between the amp and the cab, one between the cab and floor. Cab in question is a Bergantino HD210.

Sounded great before, sounds great now. No perceptible change. Might help in some rooms, but my living room is pretty forgiving evidently.

Check out my supremely inventive EQ settings, haha. I love the EQ on this thing, but for a high quality "normal" bass tone, this thing with knobs at noon just crushes. I adjust the gain depending on which bass I'm using. This was with my Warmoth Jazz (Status Graphite neck, EMG JVX pickups and BTC preamp at 18V, EQ flat, volume on full, blend at about 25% towards the bridge from the center). Touch sensitive light OD with plenty of harmonic content, a juicy, well controlled bottom end that sits perfectly in the mix and a sweet midrange through top end response. Heaven. Best sounding bass amp I've ever owned, and I've owned some seriously heavy hitters.

Smove, u are so right on about eq. No hunting and pecking with eq necessary to get a good tone. Just a little to get a problem room dialed in. You know......just like how EQ I supposed to work!!!!!!

Yeah, Gramma on the floor only helps in rooms with a wobbly floor. Of course the one between head and cab protects the head from vibration regardless.

I'm currently in an apartment, and that's where I've used my standard Gramma exclusively so far (respect to my neighbors). However this Saturday I'm gigging a room where I experienced acoustic weirdness before, so I'll bring the Gramma. That should tell me whether the weirdness is from a vibrating stage, or other factor(s) such as the glass storefront. I should also have my Baby Gramma today, so I'll put that between Studio 1200 and cab.

It was so awesome to gig the NV610 again, it had been awhile. But it's too big for tonight's gig, so I'm back to one or two CN210 cabs (which are nice enough but no NV). Tonight's room has wonky acoustics so I'm going to try regular Gramma between cabs and floor to see if that helps (but it might not, the problem might be the plate glass windows behind the band).

Thanks! The black stuff is extra strips of gaffer tape that I thought I might need for set lists so I put 'em on the vents where they'd be easier to remove. Not a recommended strategy by any means, but trust me, there's no danger to the amp. It's never gotten hot... even after running at full throat, it's only felt warm on the bottom.

I figured the tape was some kind of cool NASCAR thing where you tape over the radiator slot until it warms up, then pull the tape off. I'm slightly saddened that that's not true, but it's pretty impressive that it's not getting that hot at all.

A little bit - finally! I got most of the assembly done for a fit check. It's been a lot of work optimizing all aspects of the layout but I think it's coming together.

Would it be possible to flip the positions of the input jack and the mute switch? On my Studio 1200 the cable blocks the mute switch a bit. It's not inaccessible by any means, but if the board layout works such that you could flip them I think functionality could be improved.
