But the main point of this post is to report the amazing tone this pairing provides while keeping up with loud guitarist and drummer. Every time I try another one of my amps with it I keep coming back to the 1200 and, when I do, I'm amazed at the sound I can easily dial in .. every time, in every setting.

This pairing is my Number One. I just love it .. thanks @JGR and @alexclaber.

I should add, my number one bass is a Ric 4003 with Rotosound rounds. With this amp and cab: tone for miles.

Amen. The Studio 1200 has been my #1 since I got it -- and in fact, my amp GAS no longer exists, which is miraculous given all the choices we have these days. I'm still rockin' out (among other genres), sometimes playing LOUD with no FOH, and I've come close to using all 1200W when running four or six 10" speakers, but I've never needed more volume than the S1200 can deliver. Beautiful tone and gobs of volume in a small, 13 pound box... that's all I need.



Off-topic postscript: the Bergantino NV610 has pretty much killed my speaker GAS... I just wish someone would invent a neo 2x10 cab that sounds EXACTLY LIKE IT! (That's not directed at JGR -- I share his skepticism about neo speakers).

You might ask @tombowlus about the Barefaced Two10 (I'm not affiliated in any way).
Probably won't get as loud as the NV610, though.

The Barefaced Two10 is NOT neo, but still manages to be very lightweight. So you get the characteristics of ferrite magnets but not all that weight (internal bracing of the cab is what makes this possible). I have the barefaced Four10 which weighs 49 pounds, and will take anything I could ever dish out. If 49 pounds is not too heavy for your needs, it'd be worth a look. IMO, a Barefaced Two10 will do, volume-wise, what a quality-but-not-boutique 4x10 will; the Four10 will do what a quality-but-not-boutique 6x10 or 8x10 will. In each case, the Barefaced tone is fantastic.

I checked most of them out on youtube, but realize they almost assuredly sound better in the room with them live.

The Studio 1200 was received a couple months or so ago now.

Similar to what others have stated what's not to like about it?

I play it through a MAS Flex 110 and AK Hathor 1203. Being a previous Mesa Scout owner the 1200 delivers where the Walkabout ran out of juice. It's harmonically rich, power on tap for more, and a great 5-band EQ. Some may enjoy the added flexibility of the parametric EQ on the Walkabout. But in my opinion the Studio 1200 is even more musically viable such that each roll of the five EQ knobs renders musically enjoyable tones.

I look forward to hear more of Jonathan's amplification efforts from the cabinet side as well as his micro 700.

The Studio 1200 is surely a long term keeper for me.

Here's a video with the Reiner Studio 1200 in action, this time with my newly acquired Taylor AB-1 acoustic basss guitar and black nylon tapewounds. Bass is a blend recorded from two sources: the Fishman piezo pickup and VTB Active Volume & Tone Controls into an Fdeck HPF Pre and the amp, then: (1) the amp's DI and (2) mic'd a Barefaced BB2 cab with a Peluso 22 251 large diaphragm tube condenser.

Studio 1200 friends,

Definitely still loving mine. Even after all this time I'm completely satisfied with and excited about my tone, heft, and punch! And did I mention tone? Every time, I'm amazed anew at how good it sounds with my bass and cabs. This is one product that has delivered, 1000%.

I know it's a rare item. Mine is #4. What's the highest serial number out there? I'm curious as to just how rare it is.

I believe that JGR is wrapping up #10, but he can confirm.

Mine's SN#2. Pretty sure I've said this before (multiple times!), but in short, my amplifier GAS is completely gone. The 1200 has had the power and headroom to handle every gig I've played, including my stupidly loud ones, and it has the killer tone you described. It gets monstrously loud (when necessary) through my Berg cabs: either NV610 (my #1), or CN210s (1 or 2 depending on the venue).

On top of that, I can bring the 1200 plus a single cab to small gigs/jams/rehearsals and not frighten anyone. :D I use OD pedals most of the time (always for hard rock), but I occasionally plug straight into the 1200 and it sounds wonderful even when squeaky clean: the tube magic is still there. I still have my Aguilar TH500 -- nice amp, but since I got the 1200 it's been relegated to backup (and it's cool to have a backup amp that takes up so little room in my wagon).

I wouldn't be surprised if JGR's upcoming VHF700 has enough juice for my gigs, but my 1200 isn't going anywhere. I'm also interested in JGR's cab designs -- his 2x10 in particular.

Good to hear Eric! As Fuzzbass mentioned, #10 was finished a few weeks back. Several of the ones that went out this year were to folks that I don't believe are on TB which is why things have been kind of quiet. I built them in two runs of five over the past year and a half, so #10 was the last of what I had as far as work in progress. It took me a lot longer than I wanted to get the last half done, but I'm excited to have them out there making music. I'm not planning to build anymore 1200's right now because I would have to do another buy of power modules which is tough from a cash flow perspective when I'm not getting many built, but I'm really excited about the VHF700 and the cabs. Once the cold weather sets in I typically have a little more time to work, so hopefully things will get rolling again soon.

Hey JGR!

I see my producer left you a message on Facebook! We have to get some of your gear into Sheffield Studios, preferably before the band goes in in a couple months for the next CD.

Here's my suggestion: You buy a case of Sam Adams, invite @Fuzzbass and me up to your facility, and he and I spend a couple days soldering like a son of a gun. We'll get some stuff out the door for you!

Seriously though, it's really cool there's such a demand for your work. Beats the heck out of the alternative.

Yeah, we are playing phone tag at the moment but we'll converge at some point. I would love to have you and Ken up here to check out the final proto's of the VHF700 and 210 Wunderkab. Hopefully we can make it happen before the end of the year!

I have #9 and continue to enjoy it's possibilities - harmonically rich, wattage strong, and an EQ to simplify ones wander lust.

I just finished up my 3rd different build with the 700ASC module. The more I dial into the nuances of getting the best out of it, the more I like it.
