Renaissance/Turner Basses Club

Rick Turner fans... Available at Guitar Center. Here's a great looking Turner Renaissance 5 string fretless in the piano black finish. I used to have the 4 string sibling of this one...the piano black finish on the front was gorgeous with the rosewood board and walnut back/sides.

RT friends...here's that Electroline fretless I recently purchased. It is a prototype done when they were setting up the new CNC program in the shop for the Electrolines. It is so awesome and one of my favorite basses to play now. The body is mahogany (nitro finish) and the bass weighs 8.6 lbs. The maple neck (nitro finish) is killer and just a blast.

The tone variety with it is ridiculous. I have it set up with TI Jazz flats (of course). ;-) It doesn't have the piezo, just the 3 passive hand wound dual coil pickups with no active preamp (yeah, that's a lot of pickups! -which I wasn't so sure about when I was deciding but so worth it). Controls are volume, tone, sweep between neck and bridge pickups, and the switch for selecting neck/bridge together or middle solo. When I bought it, I was thinking I would install the piezo bridge and Eclipse preamp but I'm not sure I will now as the tone is so good as is. But maybe. I was also thinking about sending it off to be refinished in a dark cherry burst nitro but going to wait a while to decide as I might keep it just like this. Any other color/finish suggestions from all of you are welcome and appreciated.

I put new Acousticores on my Renaissance, replacing the flatwounds I had put on it, thought I would explore the strings designed specifically for this bass. Picked up a Walter Woods amp too, looking forward to hearing how that sounds with this bass as well.

An Electracoustic, or an older model? I had an Electracoustic Super for 16 years, and two older models, both 100w single channel MI-100-8s, both secondhand, the first one in the mid '80s, the other sometime in the late '90s, before ordering the Super from Walter. Great amps.

Love my TiJF's, but I swear those AcoustiCores are just 'The Thing' for my Rens. I don't deny they're weird to get used to... but there's nothing else like 'em. Closest thing I can think of to describe them is like "giant classical guitar strings".

Was it the spongy feel or the sound you didn't care for, RV?
