TI Acousticores ... of course. The ones on there have been on since 2009 and still sound great. The TI's really last a long time. I have an even older set on a cheap Rogue Acoustic unlined fretless, probably the first set I put on the Turner. That set is so old the bronze coating on the strings is gone. Amazingly, still sounds good.

The WA really provides a great tone platform for the Turner. The CN212 makes the WA sing. Wonderful combination for all my basses - slabs or semi-acoustic. Never been happier with a rig, and I have used many in 42 years of playing bass.

Not a Renaissance but here's my 1980 Model 1. Was converted to fretless and not very well at some point in its life. I just sent it back to Turner yesterday for a re-fret and to replace a broken control cavity cover and rotating pickup surround. Great bass, 32" scale with really transparent pre.

That's only the 2nd Model One to show up here, and at 1980, it may be the earliest Turner-made bass yet to surface here. I hope to play one of those before time's up.

Me too. I've never ever seen a Model One in real life.

For that matter, I've never seen another Turner/Renaissance here in Virginia, though I did see one for sale on th' bay once, but it was just somebody flipping a guitar rather than a player.

Hey Rick Turner friends...

Just letting you know that there is a Rick Turner Renaissance RB5 fretless at Guitar Center. It is at the Arvada, Colorado location. I spoke with Austin there and he also sent me some photos. Has a couple of dings on the top, otherwise looks very good. Rare cedar top with walnut back. Looks like it has the TI Acousticores on it and I forgot to ask about the condition of the fretboard. Austin's number at the store is 720-540-3033.

It is priced low at $799. I'd buy it but I already have two Turner Ren fretless basses, a 4 and a 5. I was thinking about buying it to have another with some different strings on it vs my others. Please buy it so I don't. ;-)

Hello fellow Renaissance/Turner players... hope you guys are gigging happy! Thought I'd bump our thread in the new TB format.:cool:

I myself, just scored a pretty steady job subbing on bass with some guys doing Bluegrass-y R&R covers. Their regular bass player (who's also a friend of mine) suffered a serious back injury and needs a couple months off. I have plenty to do already but what the heck... they've got a couple fairly high profile gigs this Summer, pay is darn good, and they all seem like pretty cool guys... no king-sized egos, no craziness.

They all love the sound and the look of the fretted Ren 5, and this is a job it's well suited for since they're all plugged in and like being loud.

So, what are you guys up to?

Not much going on here, just getting our songs together and looking for gigs for Intra. We don't exactly play bar friendly party music, more prog rock/singer songwriter type of music (hard to categorize). :woot:

The fretted RB-5 took on a wedding reception at the (Donald) Trump Winery outside Charlottesville, Va. yesterday. We were set on a stone patio outside this huge tasting pavilion. Incredible venue... even the dressing room was like something from Great Gatsby.

I meant to snap a shot of the bass out in the vinyard, or next to the sign, but time got away.

Never seen tone/volume pots mounted thataway... interesting. Sorta' reminds me of how the older Renaissance battery compartment worked.

I agree... it would be a major pain-in-the-head to swap out a pot. I wonder if that's a newer innovation?

@ basschanges - Sweet bass you got there! If that high C didn't scare the daylights outta' me I'd be all over it, but GLWTS anyway. Send whoever it's new owner is over to our humble thread. We've only had a couple 6'r Renaissances on here.

Thanks! Will do. I'm certainly not selling it out of not liking the instrument. I'm having Joe Zon build two basses that necessitate the sale of almost my entire collection. People might think I'm exaggerating, but the Renaissance 6 is probably the easiest 6 I've ever played. I think that has to do with the low string tension and the shorter scale.
