Replacemant Fretless Neck for Samick J Bass

So I finally reacquired my childhood bass guitar. It was my first fretless, my first instrument I loved, and so of course it was the first instrument I destroyed by trying to make it look cool. I started by having a guitar humbucker put in, which actually sounds great. I then decided to give it the classic worn out look. And other such....ideas

....So anyways, here's my questions now that you've seen what we're dealing with:

1) The "defretting"job on the neck is terrible. They ground them even to the neck and it sucks. It's never even and further more every time I had them resand the neck to fix it they also ground further into the bone nut without asking me to lower the action. It was done in Lexington, KY at Wilcutt. **** job.

So I'd like to get a decent fretless neck put on this guy. Would a Fender standard neck fit? It's a Samick Jazz Bass originally so I'm not sure how they'd translate.

2) Would I use wood filler to fill the engraved swirly thing? Then sand the existing paint off before I painted it something classier?

3) The Back engraving with the Zappa quote I still kind of like. I could still sand, repaint and glaze over the back and keep that, right?

Why did you keep going back?

The neck fit is anybody's guess.

You are going to have to go to a solid color, to have any chance of hiding this mess, so I'd suggest you use Bondo to fill major divots.
