Replacement Speaker for cab

Hi all.
I need to replace the speaker in my Gallien Krueger mb115. Is there anywhere I can put the dimensions of the cab and port and get a recommendation for a speaker that would work well?
I've been on touch with GK and been told that a) they can't ship a replacement to me in the UK, b) they don't have any specifications for the original speaker, and
c) any 15" 4 ohm speaker will "probably be fine"!!?
Considering their marketing makes a big deal of how the cabinet and speaker are carefully designed to work together I'm calling bs on this and so have come here for help.
Honestly can't believe GK have someone working for them who has so little knowledge or understanding of bass cab design!

I would try to reach Jason (if he is still at GK) and see if he can be more helpful...and despite that "more helpful" bar already beings set low, Jason is top tier IMO. Jason has always gone out of his way to offer help and guidance to GK customers IME.

The answer you received to basically "just find something that fits in the hole" is not only poor advice, but total engineering nonsense. GK speakers and cabs/combos are well-designed and tested to perform properly together.

Good luck getting this sorted and see if you can get in touch with Jason to help you.

You are correct the driver and cab should be designed to work together.

If GK fails to help, someone here is likely to model drivers to help you pick a suitable choice. They will need the cab's internal volume and port dimensions.

GK's website lists a 4 ohm 200W 15 for the MB115 for $119 USD. In my experience international shipping out of the US tends to be cost prohibitive. Any chance you know someone who will be visiting the US.

The UK distributor is in Denmark

Audio Distribution Group
Nordlandsvej 90C
8240 Risskov, Denmark

Perhaps they can get the appropriate driver...it might take some time and effort.

That's the worst customer service I've heard of from GK, ever. Perhaps it was someone that has a problem with us Brits? 😀

Can the driver that has went bad be rebuilt/reconed back to factory specs?
Anyone in your area offer driver repairs?
(Although, it'd probably be roughfully the same price to buy a new 15" driver as it would to have the old one repaired.)

You might also go to the Eminence U.S.A. website. Eminence lists G.K. as one of the many manufacturers that they provide OEM parts and drivers for.
See what replacement driver they'd recommend.

I'm frankly amazed that G.K.'s customer service failed to provide you with the answers you requested.
Over the years I've had contact with Bob G., Jason, and the California U.S.A. G.K. factory, they've always been super helpful and courteous.
Sorry that's not the experience you had.

Reconing a custom driver without using the original parts will result in a driver that is unrelated to the original part.

The answer the op received sounds like it was from a dealer or distributor who didn’t want to be bothered.

The driver is not Eminence, it’s GK’s own part. Many manufacturers won’t poopie directly to customers outside their region and require going through their distributor for that region.

Here is the part, perhaps you have family or a friend that could order it for you and then ship it to you?

Maybe Eminence's list that was on their old website of manufacturers that used their products as OEM has changed after the B&C buyout?

On the old Eminence website it listed Gallien-Krueger as a user of Eminence OEM products.

Google, "A Paragon Of Resilience Eminence 50th Birthday", it lists some of Eminence's OEM clients.

Some of the musical instrument manufacturers listed, Yamaha, Peavey, Community, Gibson, Epiphone, Marshall, Ampeg, Fender, Gallien-Krueger, Kustom, ect.

Pic is from the new Eminence/B&C website of OEM clients, it does not show G.K. or several others that was listed in the past.
