Replying to a classified ad?

Last thing I'm going to say about this because I think everything else has already been said, this website has been by far the easiest, most reliable, most pleasant and most successful place for me to buy and sell items on the Internet and in the real world. Everyone I deal with no matter if I'm the buyer or seller is happy about the process and the result and Im worried about how this change will affect that.

Besides that I'm happy with all the other changes and I understand that for the most part this upgrade was necessary (I've worked in IT for 20 years and almost nobody likes change). Nice job to everyone responsible. Hopefully we can come to an agreement on this one issue so everyone is happy.

Thank You Admins.

Just like the poster above, I am for the most part very happy with the new software, and the new look.

HOWEVER...without a fix for the classifieds, I can see that I will quickly lose confidence in this community's ability to "self-police"...and when I lose that confidence, I will also lose my motivation to log in and participate.

Oh and if you haven't yet, please read the TalkBass 2014 FAQ

Well said.

What might be helpful is a good solid explanation why a few bumps a day, versus one a day, could have such a negative effect on the moderators? I'm seeing a lively one sided argument against this change and I'm seeing a few comments about how the mods have to take too much time to police it. What does a few extra bumps hurt?

The post from Paul in post #27 of this thread suggests that he is willing to listen to feedback on this issue.

We shall see. As I mentioned in other threads, I've seen this happen before on other popular sites, and it's quite astonishing these kind of changes can be imposed without the powers-that-be having any kind of clue how the user community would react. As a software developer myself, I understand how it happens - the programmers or managers unilaterally decide "this will work better for them" without actual and substantial user feedback beforehand. Then when they drop it in, they are shocked by the pushback.

I have seen many forums literally become ghosts towns, unused. The roman empire fell and so can TB. I am here still because I am interested in talking about this and suggesting change but I havent looked in the classifieds or basses section, I am not entertained by the classifieds like I once was and have no desire to deal with it so once these threads on this change die down if there are no changes made to the classifieds then I will no longer have a reason to be here. I have some of the highest feedback on TB and do countless deals a month, so that will be a shame but maybe we can all meet again some place else.

I hear you guys. Please bear with us, there's a LOT on the plate right now, but we are very open to your feedback, trust me. Thanks!

Hi Paul,
I mentioned this in a discussion on the old forum, but have you considered changing the default sort order on the classifieds forum to first post date?
That way, everyone can post in the threads to their hearts delight, but it doesn't bump the thread to the top of the forum (by default).

This solves the issue of 1 bump per day rule being abused/having to be managed, and solves the issues everyone seems to have with the new "no replies" option.
