Is it a crime to make money? I believe it's possible to be sincere about making music and true to your art form while making a profit from what you do. I like Flea but I don't give a rat's a** what equipment he uses or if he makes business deals.

I think it's funny that the majority of people so far went right to a paid endorsement deal...maybe he tried them and then liked them? maybe he realized that he sounds like Flea no matter what amp he uses and liked the shade of blue?

And I don't doubt that the new acoustic gear doesn't sound like the old acoustic gear--from everything i have heard about the old acoustic gear, there is a reason they discontinued production!

+1 on the facebook/planking craze.

those a bunch of vintage acoustics... i would bet lots of money that this is just a picture, i sincerely doubt that flea is using solid state amps from the 70's on stage. these could be flea's (an homage to Jaco), could belong to a friend, a museum (Jaco or JPJ exhibit), music store, etc.

Or not. Flea just purchased 12 of the new Acoustic USA 360/361 amp setups from the manufacturer, as posted on their website.

Also important to note, that while they look like the 'old' amps, they're Eminence Neo speaker equipped and the amps themselves are a different architecture than the originals.

I also don't believe that Acoustic USA probably has the kind of cash for any paid endorsement deal. They're making these amps one at a time, and with a MSRP of 5K each...

Listen, Flea has a huge buttload of money, makes a buttload every single day just from sitting on his ass, and makes two buttloads when he's working. Flea does not need to endorsement-hop to make money. If he plays something, it's because he likes it.

BTW, just to prove this point, in the past, Flea has:

---backhandedly insulted MusicMan basses in the pages of BP while endorsing them.

---spent years playing a vintage Jazz Bass while endorsing Modulus.

---did gigs with Jane's Addiction using an Ampeg B-15R while endorsing GK.

So that shoots down this "paid to endorse Acoustic" crap as far as I'm concerned.

And it also reinforces the fact that celebrities endorse all kinds of things; it does'nt mean that they actually use them.

:D Sorry, but it always irks me when endorsers get accused of playing stuff only for the money. High profile endorsers have the money to buy whatever gear they want, and also have every company out there trying to land their endorsement. There may occasionally be endorsers who love to schnorr free gear or want to get paid, but I think the vast majority of folks who endorse gear do it because they like the gear they endorse. And I see no reason to call someone's integrity into question over it, even if they switch from a brand they've used for a long time.

At least one of the 361 cabs has neo drivers (there are two versions, it looks like the 361M does):

Featuring a custom designed 15” neodymium cast frame Eminence speaker, switchable titanium horn driver and the same 400 watt power amplifier found in the larger 361. This folded-horn monster is worthy of the ‘361’ title.
