The foot switch on the original was a locking switch that had A, B, Both and little lights that showed what mode it was in.

Yes, the topic of bottom-extension (or lack thereof) is well covered up-thread, and other places / laboratories / campfires where such things are contemplated: Discussions of Carol Kaye's open-backs / yeah but at what slope / non-flat-tone-profiles / clean-up and de-garbling / and but subs / and ears... on and on.

Also sub-registers often (most often?) being musically extrapolated by the brain, which hears the overtones and assumes the fundamentals. Chit like that.

Lots of variables that say making something computer-perfect by someone's rigid engineering truisms never WAS how "music" came to be in the first place. Ever. Except soulless stuff.

I'm actually enjoying my new amp because it can recreate tones of that generation of sound. The open-back thing, my old Standel 2x12 combo amp, B-15s. I enjoy how that stuff records and the fact that the new amp can get those sounds at gig volume without losing the character I like at a higher volume.

I think a lot is going to hinge on if they get the speakers right. Yes the 200s was "only" 65 watts, but with the 200s/D140/quasi-horn cab it gets pretty darn loud. Loud enough for a rock band in a gym or good sized bar without PA support back in the old timey times.

These days I can make a 50 watt Bassman with a single D140 Tone-ring Showman cab work fine onstage if there are subs out front and a 15" wedge in front of me, and everyone onstage thinks it sounds GREAT. ...No one out front is complaining. It's a managed stage volume with a responsive tone that is my preference.

I heartily concur with this!
My speaker solution is the Bag End S-15D. Its sensitivity spec is higher than most, and that really seems to help for gigging on bass with wattage in the double digits.

With a 4 ohm stack I can keep up with a really loud drummer!
The new product line looks a little niche to me - but I mean that in a good way! (Does the market really need yet another 6 pound cigar box with a hifi or Ampeg-esque pre & 500-800 watts of class D?)
