Whoa! I saw the pics and assumed it was a horribly aged, black base that someone took a hammer and screwdriver to to route out a new pickup cavity. This is a travesty. And then to ask $775 to boot?! That cracked neck alone would render this thing completely questionable but the body has been completely disrespected.

...probably sounds killer though.

Every time I see a poor thing like this, I want to buy and restore it.

Good luck finding the correct pickup for that. Sure, it could be saved, but how much work would have to go into it?

These are great instruments, no doubt, and I've owned quite a few, but 'perfection'? There are quite a few players who didn't care for the weight of these, or the pickups or the electronics. The good news is that there are still a lot of these around, very few that I've seen have been modded and, while prices have been steadily climbing for a few years now, they can still be had for cheap if one is patient.

Nothing a cool pickguard can't fix.

It's hard to believe but there are some things even tort can't fix. This might just be one of them.

That will need a LOT of wood filler and TLC.

You spelled "lighter fluid and matches" wrong.

To me, the nodded bass looks nothing like the original.

The necks aren't the same (one two octave-one not).

The body contours aren't he same. (Modded bass is contoured all the way around.)

Where the top horn meets the neck is a different spot on the two basses.

Nothing about the two basses (short of the wood grain in the exposed area of the black bass) is similar in the least.

I don't think the black bass started out as a MC800 at all. I think the whole ad is a fraud.

Why do you guys even think it is/was a MC800?

Ah, it's just a piece of wood at the end of the day, they grow all the time. If there's anything being a mechanic taught me, it's that anything can be fixed, if you're willing to put the time, effort, and materials into it.

That being said, you'd have a tough time giving this to me, let alone selling it.

My guess is that some kids dad handed it down to him, then the kid wanted it to be this xXx_H4RDC0R3_xXx axe like his heroes (no doubt something like Asking Alexandria or Suicide Silence)

I couldn't stand to have those big open routes!
I would have at least inlayed blocks of wood.Repainted it.
THEN put in the Jazz pickups.

Why do you guys even think it is/was a MC800?

• If you look in the route you can see the faint evidence of the neck though body stringers.

• Evidence of the single soapbar pickup.

• Faint evidence of the maple of the N.T.B next to the G string.

• He removed the N.T.B neck and added a set in neck.Routed out a neck pocket.

• Easy to add a body contour.Belt sander.

• The twenty four fret neck extends farther into the body
